Franchitti avoids trouble, picks up win

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

IndyCar Series points leader Dario Franchitti won Sunday's race at Iowa Speedway, but that was the only thing normal about the afternoon.

Danica takes out five other cars - too bad Michael - hope that you only gave her a one year contract.

Actually the one to blame should be Brian Barnhardt for not waving off several of the re-starts. The telecast said that he had asked in the frivers meeting for quicker (rather than slower) re-starts; yet time and again, someone spun tires on a restart causing yet again another crash. Had they been going quicker at the line, that would not have been such a problem.

And while there is no question that Danica was "squirrely" on the restart where she crashed, she wasn't the one who tried to go into a corner 4 wide. Frankly, that was just too many people trying to put too many cars into too little space. Again, had the restart been quicker, they might have been better spread out.

Could have backed off... in a bad spot and out of control.. but, never her fault. Tony owned up to his mistake... even if not 100 % your fault, at least admit some responsibility once in a while.

Iowa Speedway needs to get a clue on parking. I spent 2.5 hours in line to park and missed half the race. Let me rush right back for more of that next year.

Perhaps if Danica would have gotten up to speed, 3 or 4 cars would not have had to go around her making it 4 wide.

Next time leave a little earlier. Nobody cares if you show up next year or not. Looks like there will be plenty of people to buy your ticket. Nice job, Iowa. Great show!

A crash-fest that showed some pretty bone-head errors, but for their first race at this track for the drivers, teams and Friestone it is forgivable; nevertheless it was an entertaining race.

More short ovals in the 200-250 mile range, please!

First, I'm not a Danica fan...

Second, it wasn't her fault...

The blame of the five car pile-up sits squarely on the shoulders of Foyt #4 and Ed "I shouldn't be in an Indy Car" Carpenter. Those two were passing her before the green flag; not to mention putting her in a position without any room to manuever. She was in such a tight spot, the buffeting air, trying to watch right AND left, cool air, and high speed... she did all she could... It's not a Danica issue - anyone in that same situation would have had a very difficult time keeping it straight.

Exciting to watch, nonetheless...

Finally, a "typical" IRL race! And this just in from IMS, due to the success Vision Racing (i.e., Ed Carpenter) had on the short Iowa oval, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be rebuilt as a 7/8 mile oval in time for next year's '500'.

I've got to fault her for that one. Did you see the bobble before it happened. I felt sorry for the two Vision cars who were finally doing (kind of) good.

Ed is an intelligent well educated young man who earned his way up through open wheel from quartermidgets on. Danica Patrick raced karts and video games. The only reason she has a ride is the shape of her skin.

It is a trend that has existed for a few years now with occasional exceptions: Danica screws up, whines, stomps and pouts about how it is everybody and everything else's fault, then continues to get very little out of great equipment. Her response was very predictable. A) Everyone tries to get the jump on restarts B) the other drivers mistake was trusting that Danica could drive a straight line in a tight spot without bouncing back and forth like a pinball until she hits somebody. Tough spot granted, especially for a bad driver.

You are absolutely off your rocker! Ed is a foul mouthed kid who bad mouthed his ride in the Infinity Pro Series, and only had that ride because of TG. Danica rose up through Toyota Atlantics and has done quite well... I agree, she shouldn't have all the press until she actually wins in the IRL, but she is good. Ed and AJ were the root cause of the crash...
