Several points to make here. The world did not end because your brother was a scout. But none of us will ever know how many other boys he chose to share his inclinations with. Maybe none. But then, coming out would not have been well received, then. If the policies do change, then a virtual gay explosion would likely occur
Had to stop there,... laughing. A virtual gay explosion. Remember that they're only, by varying estimates, 3-7% of the population,... yet there'll be an exPLOSION! if they're not kept forcibly in the closet?!?! Seriously?

Incidentally, I do have a very nice vegetable garden. My flower beds are no less impressive. My orchard is quite good too. And abundant. Some would say that planting them together would have no adverse effects. Likely not. But I know how to grow flowers and vegetables and my way works perfectly. Why experiment now when my current approach is not only proven, but productive? Because something is upcoming, fresh, and newly embraced, doesn't make it better.

Within the ranks of the troop, yea. One openly gay leader and one openly gay scout would constitute an explosion, especially when "coming out". Running fast when the gates are opened is normal and expected. Ever watch a horse or dog race? In the closet? No. That isn't necessary. Just stop fighting to get into someone else's child's closet.

This is the direction a lot of things should move, to save most of us the strife and ugliness the whole process otherwise entails. The religious extremists have this obsessive-compulsive desire to divide themselves from anyone different in whatever way they choose. And that's what's becoming so,... clinically interesting to me.

Many of the religious extremists have portrayed this discussion as 'teh gheys' taking over and changing something over which they (the religious extremists) presume unquestionable ownership.'Cept the BSA isn't owned in any sense by any given church - besides which, many churches who do have an interest in it are in support of lifting the ban on gay members/leaders. So the religious extremist argument really has no rational foundation anyway.

But the obsession over keeping themselves separate, pushing away anyone who doesn't sign the pledge or pass the litmus test or qualify as exactly, precisely the right shade of 'morally straight,' overrides rationality. The psychological literature has numerous examples of similar compulsions reasonably being recognized as pathological. It won't surprise me if this religio-litmus repulsion compulsion eventually is as well.

So, religious extremists - if YOU want to make a truly PRIVATE, wholly church-owned scouting organization, it's on YOU to do that. Save everyone else the needless strife.

Perhaps, but doubtful. If "fixin'" is the objective, then adult males should be the targeted participants. The kids should be left to be kids. I may be wrong, but I've never heard of a gay person turning straight. Bad fruit doesn't turn fresh, but obviously fresh fruit can most assuredly turn bad and that turning can be hastened by many influences. That is what needs to be controlled. Sure, the comparison may suck, but that does make it less valid.
Your fruit analogy is ridiculous. People don't "turn" rotten unless they're dead.

Why is it so important to link this to religion? I'm not religious. My family doesn't practice any religion. This is about preference. I dont dislike many groups, indiviuals, entities, because I'm religious. I dislike them because I consider them to be wrong, f cked up, dangerous, and/or undesirable. Simple as that. The existing mouse trap is effective, simple, easy to use. It's pointless to gum it up with complications simply because it's the "in" thing to do these days. I can take a very brief look at this nation and it's degradation and know that we've gotten here because we f cked with it. Days of this nation being what it once was are frighteningly limited. With nearly every forward step that we've taken, we've fallen two steps back. Some things are better, most are not. Many are worse than they have ever been. Others will not survive long enough to get worse. So, yea, let's f ck with the boy scouts now. That makes complete sense. If putting flowers in my vegetable garden is something that just has to be done, then fine. We'll stop growing the veggies. I guess that's better than planting your own garden. Now, who is out to destroy?

Obviously your life has been sheltered. My analogy may seem ridiculus to you, but it is right on. Some of us have witnessed it. We didn't read it in an agenda driven publication or study. Hell, we can all twist so called facts, but the proof is in the pudding, as they say.

Shhhh...you're making too much sense. This is all about their rights, it has nothing to do with trying to destroy religion or the accepted norm. You're just an ignorant bigot.(sarcasm)

And a boy is just that, a boy. Why should his sexual orientation exclude him from the Boy Scouts? After all, he is a BOY, and may be interested in learning camping, hiking and social skills, the same as any other boy. My brother is gay and was a boy scout and the world didn't come to an end.
I believe the issue is more about scout leaders not scout ranks.

Most of us actually stayed awake during high school science class to remember what empirical evidence is. You've reminded us, for some reason, with a Wikipedia link after whining about a Wikipedia link. Now reminded what constitutes empirical evidence means and knowing that science which meets that definition of empirical evidence has been posted for you, what now? You've seemed to have completely forgotten to actually go anywhere with this.

Actually buttercup, I live with myself being "SOO GAY", happily, fully and very well, thanks for asking. Your little "issues" with my homosexuality are your little "issues" with my homosexuality, not mine. I'm "SOO GAY", bfd, I still deserve to live happily, fully and as well as I can, whether you "think" so or not, dear.

The ban prohibits lesbian and gay scout leaders, but it also prohibits participation by gay youth and announcing that you are not heterosexual is grounds for expulsion for any boy already in the program, no matter how long, whether they have ever acted on their announced same sex attractions or not.

<quoted text>THIS is exactly why I'm so adamant about this topic. My sister is "gay"...NOW. She moved away and moved in with a couple of roommates to save on rent and feel safer than living alone. They were gay. Over time she started hanging out with them and their friends, isolating herself to just those people. Her personality completely changed. She went from a typical girl who took pride in her appearance and dating guys to someone unrecognizable. She gained weight, cut all her hair off, obviously stopped taking care of herself...it was sad to watch. She was NOT "born that way", she was INFLUENCED, the same way people who hang with drug abusers start using.

I have no desire to argue your "facts" or you. My intention is only to put out alternative information/facts, because unfortunately, just as I didn't pay attention in high school, most people don't pay attention to anything other than what the media spouts off, and that just happens to fall under the "guidelines" and manipulation of GLAAD.

She has a partner and identifies herself as gay. She's not involved with drugs, in fact, she just had a baby. She crossed over just enough to get pregnant. The "father" isn't involved.

You see. That is what epitomizes what I would desire to keep my child away from. Enjoy your virtual gay explosions, just keep 'em away from the straight folk and damn sure away from the kids. We know it to be abnormal. Kids have to be taught what is acceptable and what isn't. Folks don't need others circumventing their parenting. To attempt to do so isn't a right, it is an intrusion upon the rights of others.

GAY and STRAIGHT means a person is born with 'absolute' 100% homosexual or heterosexual orientation and 'never' crosses over; even at gunpoint. The idea of crossover is repulsive to the extreme! This is what Leviticus tries to explain; but the fundies are too stupid to figure that out; even when we show them this picture:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons...
.
A person who is attracted to 'both' sexes was born with bi-sexual orientation; and can 'choose' back and forth at will
.
Such is the case with your example
