The Boy Scouts of America is considering lifting its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders, but to what extent the decision would have an impact in Indiana is unclear.

<quoted text>If you don't accept their views your full of hate. PERIOD! In reality, it's not a matter of whether or not you're blinded by hate or prejudice. THEY are, and if they don't push the "hate victim" issue they have nothing. According to the GLAAD media reference guide, they want journalists to ignore sexual orientation when it comes to perpetrators of crimes because it's irrelevant,(I agree) but if a gay is a victim of a crime..."they want ALL the facts (including sexual orientation) disclosed to "allow the public to come to their own decision." I don't ever recall hearing... "a straight male/female was found dead this morning..." because it doesn't matter a victim of a crime is just that, a victim of a crime.(unless they're gay)
And a boy is just that, a boy. Why should his sexual orientation exclude him from the Boy Scouts? After all, he is a BOY, and may be interested in learning camping, hiking and social skills, the same as any other boy. My brother is gay and was a boy scout and the world didn't come to an end.

Hate? No. Just don't see why special intrest groups have to bust up organizations that have been in good standing for century's.
That's ridiculous. First of all, no one is trying to "bust up" the Boy Scouts; they are just trying to be included and not discriminated against. Second, don't you think that there already are gays in the Boy Scouts? There always have been and they are still an organization "in good standing."

Exactly. As it should be. It would be improper to mix males and females together in a scouting venue. No different with hetero and homo males. That is the point that very many have been stating all along.

I believe they can be, and most girls have male fathers, don't they? Do all fathers harm their daughters or their daughter's friends?

Of course not.

And we allow female scout leaders, many who share the same orientation as those gay men you talk about - attracted to males. Do all of those women molest the boys in their care?

Of course not.

Several points to make here. The world did not end because your brother was a scout. But none of us will ever know how many other boys he chose to share his inclinations with. Maybe none. But then, coming out would not have been well received, then. If the policies do change, then a virtual gay explosion would likely occur and be thrust into the faces of thousands of influential kids. The aforementioned skills should very much be available for gay kids to learn and enjoy, but not at the cost of upsetting and unsettling a long standing and respectable organization founded upon morality and values. The gay scout leaders are what troubles me more though. For obvious reasons. The needs of the many should not be overshadowed for the whims of a few. Organize and roll out gay troops nation wide. Most people would never object to that. Funding should not be a major issue with that proposal. Very many groups, organizations, and individuals would be supportive. Scouting should be available for all. It can be. If it is implemented thoughtfully and the needs and desires of ALL scouts are considered. Not just the gay ones. Right now that appears to be the only consideration.

On the other hand, according to your way of thinking, maybe being in the company of other heterosexual males would influence homosexual males into "turning" heterosexual. You worry so much about the influence of gay males in the Boy Scouts; did you ever look at if from the opposite viewpoint? Perhaps all of those heterosexuals would have a good influence.

Perhaps, but doubtful. If "fixin'" is the objective, then adult males should be the targeted participants. The kids should be left to be kids. I may be wrong, but I've never heard of a gay person turning straight. Bad fruit doesn't turn fresh, but obviously fresh fruit can most assuredly turn bad and that turning can be hastened by many influences. That is what needs to be controlled. Sure, the comparison may suck, but that does make it less valid.

The solution to the problem is for the Boy Scouts to do a schnizzle schism
.
Let the troubled church-sponsored troops become 'Holy-Roller Scouts'
.
.....and assign the 'Boy Scouts' tag to the commercially sponsored troops

THIS is exactly why I'm so adamant about this topic. My sister is "gay"...NOW. She moved away and moved in with a couple of roommates to save on rent and feel safer than living alone. They were gay. Over time she started hanging out with them and their friends, isolating herself to just those people. Her personality completely changed. She went from a typical girl who took pride in her appearance and dating guys to someone unrecognizable. She gained weight, cut all her hair off, obviously stopped taking care of herself...it was sad to watch. She was NOT "born that way", she was INFLUENCED, the same way people who hang with drug abusers start using.

let's compare this to gardening. I plant, nuture, and ultimately harvest vegetables. Another plants, nutures, and ultimately cuts flowers for arrangements and such. Both are respectable gardens. I don't want flowers in my garden and it is likely that another doesn't want corn in theirs. Understandable. We prefer to plant, nuture, and ultimately harvest that which we choose. After the harvest and cutting, then the future use of those flowers and vegetables may or may not be controlled by us. I'm simply stating that my garden should be for my use as I choose. Is that so very difficult to understand and respect? Not difficult to understand, but obviously diffcult to respect. And at the same time demanding respect. Something isn't right here.
