Wal-Mart is the reason China is moving ahead of America in manufacturing.
The sheep love cheap ya know.
While other sheep believe everything they hear or read without checking out the facts.

This is from the Center for Trade Policy Studies:

"Trade with China has probably accelerated the decline of more labor-intensive manufacturing sectors in the United States, such as footwear, apparel and other light manufacturing, but it has not caused a decline in total manufacturing output or capacity.

"In fact, because of productivity gains, manufacturing employment has been falling in a wide range of countries, including China itself.

"According to a 2003 study by Alliance Capital Management LP in New York, while the number of manufacturing workers in the United States dropped by 11% from 1995 through 2002, the number in China dropped even further -- by 15%-- or a net job loss of 15 million."

In 2005, U.S. manufacturing output totaled $1.4T and led the world. Japan was second with $964B and China third at $895B.

Yesterday, after shopping @ a well known "department type" store @ 86th & Michigan Rd, my niece found a bag in our shopping cart that contained someone's "Christmas purchase" (probably). I checked the bag, looked for identifying information and saw none. I go BACK into the store, then later call inquiring if someone had reporting losing a "purchase". I said that I had found something, wanted to leave my name & number with them in the event the person calls the store. Well, the cust service person cames at me totally wrong and eventually says, "I can't do that because then I'll have to call you, the store would have to handle it, yada, yada, yada.....". He goes on to say, "Well the store wants it merchandise back". I thought but didn't say, "He l l, its not your stuff because the person PAID for the item and the receipt it was the purchase as proof". Suffice it to say, it pissed me off.

Where am I at today???? No, I have no intentions on keeping the item. I have plans to contact the Store Manager and go from there.

BUT..........if anyone knows of someone missing a "potential" Christmas present that they bought and paid for yesterday, please pass the information on via this forum.

Somehow, I just don't trust some "minion" who tells me to "bring the item back to them".

Thanks in Advance

<quoted text>MIM, it's not always about money. Perhaps this person is working in a nursing home. Or maybe the fire department or police. Maybe one of the many hospitals around Indy. There are many professions which cannot afford the same lapses that so many of us take for granted. To those who ARE working thru the holidays, THANK YOU!
You are right. I'd forgotten about those noble professions. My apologies.

Did he like that particular Wah pedal? I think the original Cry baby Wah produces the most pure tone for the money. But that is just MOI. But the real question is can he rock out with his instrument that is all the truly matters.
Honestly - I don't know what his preference is. I know he has quite a few pedals and quite a few guitars. he also plays bass and some keyboard.
The daughter plays guitar too but she's mainly acoustic.

And on one of the Julia Carson threads, only about 300 of the 800 postings are still showing. I can only imagine what the deleted ones say.
I PURPOSELY did not read the posts on her stories; they were venomous BEFORE her death (while also welcoming/wishing her passing) so I didn't allow myself to venture to GUESS NOR ACTUALLY look now that she's passed.

Does anyone else wonder what the Dad was thinking when he took his children out to illegally chop down a Christmas tree in the snow?

Protecting people from themselves..... I grew up in a house that happened to have a lake in the back yard. This was no retention pond, this was a man-made, 15-20 feet deep in the middle lake. There were houses all around it. Keep in mind, I lived in this house from 1962 until 1981. One person drowned. Only one. We had little kids running around on the "beach," we swam every day we could in the summer and ice skated on it in the winter. Funny thing about that time in America - seemed to me that parents watched their kids and all the neighborhood kids too. No offense meant for the person who lost their 8 year old - that is horrific. BUT, it just seems like people in general spend a lot of time blaming others for something that could have been prevented in the first place with some old-fashioned adult supervision.
DISCLAIMER - this was my OWN personal opinion.
In a perfect world all children would be well supervised, people would marry the person of their dream the first time around, and only the old who have lived a good, long life would die. I respect your opinion, but I disagree with your veiwpoint of protecting people from themselves.

I'm a nurse. The sick are still sick and need care. It's rotational, and it won't happen every year, but it's my year. Hazard of the job I guess, but the daily rewards are so amazing that it balances out...
I believe it takes a very special person to be a nurse. They do all the grunt work and actual hands on with the patients and get all the bull crap.
I was a CNA years ago and saw first hand. Merry Christmas to you !!!!!

My "complaint" I guess is that big business and lawyers have made the world a place where you can't casually enjoy something like living with your family on a lake without worrying that you are going to get sued.

Well guys, I'm outta here. I'll be off until after the 1st. I do, however, now have internet at home, so I'll try to pop in. BTW, the internet I have is BPL (broadband over powerlines) and it seems to work pretty well. Anyway, everyone have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
