Why doesn't the crack Star reporting team of business reporters like Ketzenberger ever take notice that Rolls-Royce engages in systematic, yet legal age-discrimination. They hire 2,000 young employees, then they announce a big layoff. The layoff consists of half older folks and half younger folks. The younger layoffs are the sacrificial lamb in order to prove that age discrimination does not exist at Rolls-Royce when it comes to force reductions. Then as sure as the sun rises, Rolls-Royce will rehire and replace those 2,000 layed off with younger employees. This happens every 2 years or so. The average age then drops drastically whenever this happens. So the stock price gets a bounce because all of the analysts think RR is cutting costs, the management excercises their options and get rich, and RR lowers their cost structure by GETTING RID OF older employees. Little do they know that RR is really on a youth hiring spree. I have been there 10 years and have seen this unethical action time after time after time. Every time, it is billed as process efficiency reductions. Interestingly enough, RR will call it a skillset mismatch and then hire younger people the year following the large layoff. Their business is good. They have no need to reduce heads. They have more business than they have heads for now. It's just that the heads they have are too old for them...unless you are in management Where is Ketzenberger? Should not he be doing some real reporting instead of being a mouthpiece for RR and other large corporations? None of the star business reporters are in fact reporters. They are PR machines for the large corporations and their unethical actions. Where is your soul Indy Star? Where is your conscience and your ethics? Do you only report what RR wants you to report and push the rest under the carpet? Peoples lives are being ruined. Please, let the people know what is happening. Signed A Rolls-Royce Manager stuck in the politics of discrimination

Yea, I'm an upper manager there, and this is all true. IF we mention it, then we are on the list. SO we just do our jobs like good soldiers....

Lets get a refund from Rolls-Royce. The state of Indiana paid cash and tax breaks worth tens of millions of dollars to Rolls-Royce, with the understanding they would "create a new engineering center in Indianapolis" and add "hundreds of jobs". If they lied to the governor, and are reducing jobs instead, they should be forced to return the cash, and the tax breaks should be cancelled.

Businesses in Indiana are just trying to survive. Only the medical, hospitals and funeral home industries are doing great-folks are either hurting or dying to get in.

rolls royce is a good company but needs to stop these layoffs it is ruing people's lives including mine. my best friend's husband has worked at RR for 25 years, he is good at his job and loves it. he is at a very high risk of being layed off. if he is layed off they will have to move out of state. RR needs to layoff the lounger people because the older folks will retire soon then they can hire more people in later years to replace them. the older the person the better they are at their job. I hope that you know how much that job has helped and needs to stay where it is. please stop all of these large layoffs.

Rolls-Royce has always been a discriminating company. All of the above is true. They run a good-ole-boy network and it will never change. I'd rather become homeless before I would take a job there. It is not worth the stress of worrying about if you are going to have a job the next day or not.

Rolls-Royce will be laying off a significant number of people global. It is my understanding that the Indianapolis plant will not be affected as much as other areas, but some reductions will take place. This will mostly affect the white collar employees.

So who gives a crap about RR ??? Ford just offered buy-outs to 56,000 hourly workers in North America... this is after they put up their factories as collateral on loans... as management took millions in performance-based rewards.
No wonder American workers are hurting.... American managers, on a global scale, suck.

The good old boy (and girl) network is still alive the thriving. For all of the lip service for improving effiency and quality, there is no leadership driving those words. Upper management is not on site. The middle managers are busy being face-less and covering for their jobs. They will put any employee out so as to protect themselves first then (perhaps) they will protect their "friends" then, possibly their direct reports. They don't seem to care about accuracy of data, if uncovered, if it hurts their security. Good company overall. They just have some poorly sloted management that is ruining their chance of keeping quality employees.

Rolls Royce is like any other corporation, you need to make money to be in business, however, this seems to be the world we live in, get screwed all the way. I know some people who are getting laid off and guess what, all the new young people they hired, bye bye, and guess who stays, the old guys who do... like in every union, nothing. Thanx unions for protecting the buttheads who really don't do anything.
