If this 63 year old woman had two pet toy poodles, she would be alive today even if they had attacked her.

I guess retiring with two dogs for company may not be such a great idea...

I wonder just how much attention this story will garner in the days to come. I's not a pitbull, after all.

Here's the thing...animals are animals. Pets or not...they are still animals.

See... It's not only Pit Bulls that kill or hurt people. I bet there are no protests to try and ban chow-mixes from the state now. This is a tragedy and could have happened with any breed of dog. My heart goes out to Phyllis's family

Looks like they were rottie mixed, not chow, at least that is the photo on tv.

This tragedy is the prime reason that banning certain breeds of dogs is not effective.

This poor victim who was afraid was probably also so kind hearted she did not want to see the dogs that were becoming aggressive euthanized. ANY dog that shows unprovoked aggression to people neds to be humanely euthanized. This was clearly unprovoked...she was taking them treats...

May her soul find peace.

i have a rottie mix and she won't do anything but lick ya ok she jumps up on people once in awhile just to make sure they know shes there...she wouldn't hurt a fly...its all in how you raise your pet...nobody knows how this lady raised those dogs...she could have raised them to be guard dogs for her or she could have raised them fed them but never given them attention...ITS ALL IN HOW YOU RAISE YOUR PET...

According to CDC statistics, chows are one of the most dangerous breeds.

As dog-lovers and breeders advise, do a little breed research before choosing a pet.

It sounds like this poor lady made a few mistakes: choosing an aggressive breed, getting two instead of one, and keeping them confined. The story doesn't say, but it's likely the male had not been neutered, either.

We asked Nationwide Insurance to insure our home in Indiana. When they found out my son had a Rottweiller, they would not give us Homeowners coverage. They said they do not insure homes with pit bulls, Rottweillers, and CHOWS! My son's Rott is as gentle as they come and wouldn't hurt his own fleas.

This is a tragedy and my thoughts go out to the family.

However, if there were no witnesses, how do they know that she was carrying treats out to her dogs.... and how is it known why and when the dogs attacked?

...Who would leave two aggressive (and apparently dangerous) dogs in the sole care of a 63 year old woman?

All Chows and Chow mixes should be put down. Every Chow I have ever seen has been mean, no exceptions.

Chow, Rott, Pit Bull.... They are all worthless breeds for pets, they are agressive and not to be trusted. There have been entirely too many attacks lately and something needs to be done. All you animal rights people out there keep up the bitching and complaining about banning specific breeds, however, when your dog attacks someone, be prepared to pay the consequences. If it attacks me or one in my family, I will be the first to file criminal and civil complaints against you the owner. If the courts don't do justice to satisfy me, I would have my own justice I promise.

I had a chow mix once...very sweet.
This is very sad for the lady, my prayers to her family...
I agree with Bob...ITS ALL IN HOW YOU RAISE YOUR PET...My current dog is spoiled I guess...But she is like a family memeber...not a pet...We have a very good bond...She is very laid back and sweet.

This is so sad for the victim and her family. They are in my prayers.

I am not sure what the solution is to all the animal attacks lately. If the dogs had started becoming more and more aggressive, I don't understand why this lady kept them.

It's just very sad.
