I wonder how long it will be before he ends up back in jail...when his next act of criminal recklessness kills someone.

Well, it's disappointing in some ways. But it's good that justice is done. Hopefully they will be able to figure out what really happened that night.

Also, this goes to show why vigilante justice is a bad thing. When this first happened, there were plenty of comments on here saying things like "just take him out back and shoot him." Well, this is why you don't do things like that.

It's good when mistakes can be admitted to and justice sought.

Sooo, are they going to blame this on the Sherriff too? He was in charge of this when it happened.

Sounds like poor investigating or poor prosecution. LETS GET IT TOGETHER FOLKS!!!!!!

What is a criminal backgroung? Is that better or worse than having a criminal background?

Sounds like someone screwed this one up good. Before all is said and done, everyone will be released and not charged, the cop will get his job back, the bar will reopen(under a differnet name), and all involved will sue the city and win a big payday. Meanwhile the guy that got killed will just be dead. Gotta love justice. I'm glad impd worked so hard to screw this one up. Have they solved any murders lately where the perp did not just fall into their lap.

Go figure this is another fine example of the quick to react publicity seeking prosecutor's office that eventually figures out it cannot prove anything. So often they charge a high felony against a defendant only to eventually get a conviction, if any, to a very low level charge. If they spent as much time figuring out the facts before charging instead of preparing for their press conferences more true justice would be served. Instead they seek to ruin lives, clog the jails and fill up the air waves and the Star eats it up and questions nothing.

Wow, I read the other thread on this case. Seems like the employees at Nelley's knew what they were talking about.
They should never "try" the case until the man has his day in court.
Run this story on the front page in the morning, then I'll be happy.

What a pathetic excuse for a police department.

Just think, they probably try harder and have more resources to use for high profile cases like this, yet this is the best that IMPD and the prosecutor's office can come up with.

Whoever is responsible for the death of this guy got away with murder.

A guy who should no longer be a cop in the first place shouldn't be running a bar (because he's still a cop after crashing a police car drunk), yet he does run a bar and they all knew it, and then he turns it into a thug hangout and takes sick leave so he can hang out at his thug bar. This is what you people get for stealing his lunch money when he was a kid.

I said it in the original article's comments and I'll say it again. There is absolutely no way this man could shoot and kill someone . And he didn't. Free Go-Go! A really good guy.

Well, I would hope if he had a gun, he carried it knowing full well that you do so to stop the threat which means shoot them dead. Otherwise, carry a summer sausage.

I work with a guy that knows him.

Or possibly both, the IMPD thought they had the killer but now after this long there's no hope they'll find him so who ever it is will do it again.

Anybody ever heard of a cop having a "drop gun"? Could explain why the description of what happened doesn't match the ballistics...
