Since last year Larue Carter hospital has fired almost 50 long term staff some with 25 years and stellar employee records. All positions have been refilled with lower salaried staff. To add insult to injury unemployment was denied.
At first I didn't think to much about it but as I saw more and more of my co-workers fired with perfect records and people that TRULY CARED about our citizens living with severe mental health issues I'm wondering am I next.
I'm asking anyone that could shed light on this to please give me any information you can or maybe the news media could get answers.
I'm a long time employee that cannot use my real name for fear of retaliation. I love bringing joy to the patients I serve but it's hard to stay focused when I don't know when I will be fired.
Thanks to anyone that can help

A company firing workers with seniority in order to save money by bringing in new hires is not unusual, and it's not technically illegal. One thing that is illegal which has been used as a defense mechanism against that action is age discrimination. If the company has a history of firing employees in their fifties and replacing them with people in their twenties then that would be illegal, and a complaint with the EEOC could be beneficial to the fired employees.

Thanks, I have no way of knowing that and the ages range from 20 to 60s so guess I just gotta wait and hope. There were so many great people that were like family to patients even coming in on holidays to spend with them so they were not alone and now it's all gone.

Thank your republi/teabagging party for those right to work laws..nothing you can do about it..not even collect unemployment anymore.

Right to work laws aren't the core problem and can't be just placed at the feet of the parties you don't like. Democrats dont have any better solutions to labor laws either. Maybe instead of pointing blame at entire groups of people we should blame the people doing this idiotic stuff and talk about how WE can fix it. Not how we can blame people and wait for other people to fix I.

1--I worked at Larue Carter for many, many years...I supervised very few people I would consider 'stellar.' 2--Many people were long-term employees because management did not hold them accountable for following policies & procedures. 3--If you really care about the mentally ill & your job, do the right thing....if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem......report misconduct, be on time, stay off your cell phone, stay awake. 4--Good luck

I have worked at Larue for many years and I can tell you that most of the problem is management/supervisors. There has been "YEARS" of favoritism, racism, personal relationships just to name a few. Yes some of the staff are to blame for the problems. But, if you report anything you are labeled a snitch by supervisors then the rumors spread and then the staff begin to watch you for your first "mess up" then you are reported then fired. This type of stuff has been going on for years. And they have fired the right management. There are a few left that remain that need to be removed. I will be bold enough to label them Superintendent, 2A/3A Supervisors, Nursing Supervisors Evening and Night Shift, The current Interim D.O.N., and the clinic office staff. This people who yet remain are part of the problem and the head and root to main cause is the current DON when you rid of all of these people you will see change indefinitely. There have been wonderful employees who I have seen come and go and they have all been treated unfairly and some haven't but I see on a daily basis how policies are used to play games and political word games with staff's jobs including down in HR they either are having personal relationships or more. Get rid of the rest of the managers and you will see "CHANGE"

They need to close that place. It is from the dark ages. People knocked Central State Hospital, but was light years a head of this place. You have employpees stealing everything that is not tied down. You have religious kooks who terrorize you with their "faith". You have kids committing suicide while on close obsentvation. You have supervisors with Ashbergers syndronme. You have pscycholights getting naked and partying with the patients.
Close the place down

I was try that many needed to go however back last winter they fired the safety security director and some of his guards. Yes they had to be difficult at times but were following orders given to them by superintendent. They were a diverse department black white gay straight male and female and from rumors had excellent employee records. I personally saw the security supervisor drive in many times to help with issues even if was to calm a patient down. Now we have a guy who is clueless, guards fresh out if high school with no security experience let alone experience working with severe mental health.
The former guards had understanding ways with the patients in calming them down, making them feel human and now kids with headphones on while working...aweful I've heard multiple complaints from visitors about the joke we have for security and staff not feeling safe walking out late at nite. Security at any hospital in this day and age should be a top priority

don't really understand how a white guy with white hair has any thing to do with being racist lady ? I would think if you do your job at a good level you would have no problems , but if you look around and accuse people of being racist you must not be doing your job ? hiding in the corner texting is not being productive neither is huddling up trying to figure out who's doing what or who LOOKS like a plantation owner ! I never comment, always enjoy just reading however I retired from Carter and the Security Director one poster talked about was amazing.
This man not only went above and beyond in his job, he did it while living with a severe and even terminal illness. The gift of caring he has for the patients was amazing. He Truely Cared. I remember one night a patient became extremely upset when a family member never showed up which happened often. The patient baracaded himself in his room.
The patient had always liked Michael. So around 1:00 in the morning during a snowstorm that was so bad employees were spending the night at the hospital Michael drives to the hospital, arrives on the unit and spends well over an hour calming the patient down. The patient came out if his room calmed down all thanks to this wonderful man. When I heard they fired him under right to work my heart went out to him as well as all of the patients that saw him over his many years of service.
I hope he is doing ok but I can tell you that he was the definition of a public servant and truely believe that if the governor could have heard what a horrible decision it was to let this man go that he would beg him to come back personally. Gov Pence if ya see this you should right this wrong.

Just because he has that white man's disease AIDS does not make him holy. He was the perfect mall cop. Most management liked him because he was a suck up to them. To everyone else, he was like the slave master in the field whipping the blackies to pick more cotton. How come he did not arrest all those sex perverts at that place. Carter Hospital is trully an American Horror Story.

ha white mans disease ? hate to burst your bubble head but I believe aids originated from the blacks in Africa and is basically still considered a black/gay disease ! and again the man expected a certain amount of effort / work for what his staff was paid to do and sounds like he monitored that effort to insure his high level of care was meet ! some will always complain due to
low energy level at work ( laziness) or resistance to change in procedures , sounds like the belt got tightened like every company and the employees was asked to pick up the pace and like every place there are some who have gotten used to doing a lot less then they are paid to do SO instead of picking up the pace the start resisting and complaining - in this case pulling out the race card because 1 its there and easy and 2 it gets attention off the lazy ass and people feel sorry and focus on the upper management to find out why they are mistreating others ! pretty basic in the health care game they sit around and believe we should wait for them when we are the ones suffering with an illness , I have seen it 1st hand , some of the nurses trying to give care are broken down 200 lbs over weight at the point they cant hardly walk yet they wonder why some want to replace them , or want to give them other dutys at a smaller pay ? I don't know you Juanita but I bet you are one of the above mentioned , and a cronic trouble maker gossip starter race slinger
