Expect more of this and other murders as we get farther from God and become more focused on "what's in it for me" and "me first." It is sad that anyone has to die under any circumstances, but even more so when it is due to lack of self-control on the part of the killer. We need better parenting, a return to morality and God and a look at the reason behind all the killing and other crimes.

Does everything on The INDIANAPOLIS STAR FORUMS have to do with God? Geez this guy could have been praisin Jesus everyday of his life and then just snap. I agree we do need better parenting but who really knows why he did this.

I agree. We need GOD first and foremost because without him, we can do no Good thing! I am praying for this young man, his family and especially the victim's family.

I agree. Middle eastern culture is dominated by morality and God...and you never hear about violence from them

Krissi...yes, it does have to do with God. Sorry, but it does. I totally agree with the others. We need to teach our children about God, morals, and how to treat other human beings. It starts with a strong faith which then allows for a strong family and respect for other human beings.

Spot on, but you just know the previous poster will claim Muslims are worshipping the WRONG god. Would love to see a reliable statistic on how many have died in religious conflicts over the centuries.

Sad story. I feel sorry for his family having to deal with what their son has done but I feel especially sorry for the family of this woman.

On an editorial note..."teen" is how old exactly Indianapolis Star? 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18...explain. I am sure you have his age since he was arrested and it is a matter of public record. If a 13 year old did this vs. an 18 year old...big difference. Yes, the outcome is the same but the impact of the story is that much greater by offering the details. I am guessing since you published his name that he is 18 because if he were a minor, you wouldn't print his name until/unless he is moved from juvenile court to adult court.

I agree with this...People have been turning away from God and looking out for "#1" (themselves). It is more than just believing in God, but also having a relationship...but even with this no one is perfect and people will continue to make mistakes.
People are so quick to turn their backs on God and then wonder where he was in these sad situations...
I am praying for the family of this women and this young man. No one deserves this.

I am devoting a portion of my life to eliminate poverty for about 1/5 of my worth in money. I'm doing it for the cause, and for no other reason. Now, would you say I'm doing "good"? I would. And guess what? I'm not doing it through God. Just because churches have a moral code does not mean you have to be a part of a church to follow a moral code. I'm tired of people living life scared by God to do right or something bad will happen. "There is nothing to fear but fear itself." I don't have to be frightened into doing right; I can do right on my own.

Morality and parenting I can agree with, but that is not necessarily the same thing as god. And you certainly don't have the right to tell me which god/goddess I can teach my children about.

I agree with Krissi. Everything in these forums someone has to say it's that they didn't have GOD in their life. Well can't say that about Molester Catholic Priests can you. Bush has GOD in his life but doesn't hesitate sending kids (18, 19 yrs olds) into foreign lands to kill or be killed. They have GOD in their lives don't they? Hell there are people every day who have GOD in their lives and good parents that just snap. You people need to realize there are people out there that are just evil even some of your everyday little bible toating, church gowing friends.

Maybe it was edited since you posted, but the second sentence says 17.

This is so sad. I've opted not to have children because in the past ten years, it seems as though the youth have literally gone wild. Children killing their family, children killing children in school and so forth. I say "Children" because I consider anyone under the age 21 a child. That's just my own thinking

I have a nephew that will be 16 soon. He scares the heck out of me. He's been arrested here and there since around the age of 12. It seems as though the courts will do nothing but keep releasing him and he keeps getting into trouble. I really feel as though he will do something horrible before the age of 18. What is going wrong?

Perhaps if they knew that their record would not be expunged once they hit 18, then they may start acting more civil (just a hope anyway). I can't believe the atrocities that can be committed by a child only to have that record wiped clean and sealed forever once they hit adulthood. We're not talking about vandalism or shoplifting here - but absolute and brutal crimes against humanity.

This is sad. My thoughts with the family. True justice may never be served in this case since he was supposedly around 16 when this happened (I'm guesstimating since the headline says that he's 17).
