White trash is as white trash does. Considering "Irish people" as a monolithic group seems equally as wrong as doing the same for any other ethnic group. "White trash" ain't necessarily white - and I know white trash, having been descended from a variety of redneck/white trash lines; A great uncle of mine was kinda the king of white trash - he OWNED the trailer park.

That would be the Germans. Some still believe in stealing from others because they are owed their lot in life.

Many of the people we think are Irish re in fact highlanders from Scotland. They migrated to Ireland to mine until the potato famine, then they migrated to the U.S. and became coal miners.
They have been known as outlaws, drunks and live by a different set of rules then normal society.
The term red neck started from the Irish having very fare skin that burned easy in the sun. The mountains is where the poorest people in the country live to this day. With that said, I have never been treated better then I have been treated by the Hillbillies. As a black man that has been dissed by all walks of life, I believe they are a higher class of people then some of the highest educated people from any big city

The poorest people are the urban blacks from central areas of large metro zones. It is very rare for them to have jobs at all. The mountain men are also very poor, but they more often are employed which makes them not as poor as the urbanites. However, the mountain men often will not pursue welfare, so they appear poorer.

You didn't check your stats, Linda. Most of those mountain men are on the draw. In city folk terms, they are on food stamps and the highest disability claims in the country per person. Medical cost for coal minors is off the charts. You don't know poor, until you see how they live.

Yet, the miners and their families seem content with the simple way of life. Poor, yes. But rich in tradition and family values.

I wish I could agree Duchess, but the advent of ocxy cotton dismasted the population. They snort any pill and shoot bath salts in their veins not to mention drinking. Drugs have taken over the last place in America.

I can only speak for the ones I know, and their families. Yes, there are drugs, as in most places. Poorer than poor, but happy. And yes, hitting the moonshine!

I agree they live poorer than the urban individual, but lifestyle is not the sole indicator of economic status. This does not take into account income from illegal activity, theft, etc. Many of the urban individuals will have "more stuff" for these reasons.
Most people in this country equate wealth with material possessions, when wealth is actually a very simple calculation of assets you own verses debts you owe.

The guy down the street with the fancy car and the 30' boat in the barn might be extremely poor when you consider he might not really own any of that stuff.

They will still steal you blind just like any urban individual, violent crimes are the same per person. Towns that have a population under a thousand are hit the worst and they live in far worse conditions then city folk. the difference between the two is that they are respectful, cordial, helpful to a stranger or a friend in need. If someone there doesn't like me because I am black, they tell me to my face. They don't use stats to point out how they feel.

I've been there, Keokee Va. Has a population of under four hundred, Pennington Gap Va, all of the towns around Harlan Kentucky has junkies and thieves. They steal people's telephone wire for copper.
They call the town dump Keokee Walmart, I swear!

that happens here. in the small town where i am from, half of the townsfolk are related to each other and if they want to get stolen crap back they know to look at the kinfolks houses. you get one of them mad at you and half the town is after you. mother always said do not mistreat them but do not run the streets with them, either. at the last count i took over 266 were interred in the local cemetery. we were nice to them in school and did not treat them like trash. they were always nice to us and we never had trouble with them but well i remember the fights at school between the coolies and the rednekkers.

They are all meth heads.

If you made a salt lick out of meth, the hayseed zombies would line up for miles to lick it.

Explain to me how having your copper wire stolen in the sticks is "worse" than getting shot dead for your iPhone in the urban jungle.
