As an east-sider, I tried to patronize the Washington Square Ayres/Macy's, but it was impossible. They carried only a small portion of what they sold at Glendale or Castleton--no suits, few shoes, and no more furniture. I know they'd argue that there was no market for those items on the east side, but I say that if they had done a better job of providing quality selection, more people would have spent their money there, rather than traveling to the north or south sides. It just goes to prove that you get what you expect. . . .

Macy's is a terrible replacement for L.S. Ayers. They have increased prices and decreased quality in their merchandise. They even sent an ad this Fall with a football theme in which they featured people wearing Bears jerseys! What a slap to the town of the Super Bowl Champ Indianapolis Colts...

Come on Mayor Ballard. Do something about the East side. Your buddy Bart couldn't, maybe you can.
I too try to spend my money on the east side...it's getting harder and harder.

I live in between Castleton and Washington Square. I hate the traffic at Castleton square but Washington square is worse than Lafayette square. I wouldn't go to neither. There is nothing left at Washington square except the other ethnic stores that people like myself would not shop at. I hate the drive, but would rather go to Greenwood Park Mall where I have more shops and better people to be around. I feel safer and don't have to worry about being run over by the "gang type".
