How true, how true. At times, even the family members will hide the past activities of the past criminal or not forthcoming with that information.

A little google of Mark Ray Leonard could have saved her unless she sought him out.

I have googled people's names but not friends and acquaintances. I'm thinking, how odd is that? I don't hang with people that I'm suspicious of, so it's never crossed my mind to check friends and co-workers. Hmmmmmmmm....laughing.......wo nder what I would find.....
This guy seems to be a rather well known bar patron on the south side. He evidently likes to solicit dates off the internet, too. To me, that's a little weird, but then, my dating years were well before the internet age and can't identify with today's crowd in that respect.
Now I'm going to google some names of people I know.

Laughing. I can't fathom the internet/cell phone dating scene.Ms. Shirley at 40 plus should have dug a little. If only to protect her child.

If she was truly clueless about all this <cough cough>, she will opt for a full background check from now on. So far, she has appeared totally ignorant on many fronts, so I'll reserve judgement on how much she knew about her latest squeeze.
I get what you're saying though. In this day and age a parent has to go overboard to assure the safety of the children when bringing outside love interests home.
Maybe this will make someone else, similarly situated, do some background checks.

Keep in mind some people are just absolute con artists and pathological liars that once you run into one you are suspicious of everyone from there on out. Spotting a deadbeat is a skill that is developed. You aren't just born with it. After exactly 5 questions I can spot one with ease now. These people make their livings deceiving others and are quite good at it. She may not have known.

This may be a simple matter of different strokes for different folks.
I don't feel I've been jaded to the point where I'm suspicious of everyone because of the few bad apples that I've run into along the way. I've been able to keep the truly bad apples far enough away from me that they pose no harm to me personally. I can generally tell from a distance whether I want to have anything to do with a particular person or not. Just the way they carry themselves means a lot to me. And yes, I think it's an acquired ability to see the bad ones from a distance. It's acquired from our interactions with others from the very beginning.
Con men start early, too. We've been able to see them develop right before our eyes, whether it's been a sibling, a relative or a classmate. We saw how they operated. We were given choices very early in life. I chose to separate myself from certain types of people. I chose what I considered as average people. Down to earth, laid back, honest people. Sure, I've been duped a time or two, but that only makes you better at seeing that type from a further distance. So we agree on several points.
I've met some really naive people along the way, too. It doesn't really help you, them or me to try and show them the light. They have made a choice to go through life with their heads in the sand or the blinders on their eyes. It's a choice that they have to live with, not me. I don't have much sympathy for them either.
If MS has chosen a path of naivety, there will be certain prices to be paid along the way. She needs to wake up because you ARE judged by the friends you keep.
