From past experience, Cops are there AFTER the fact, after the crime has been committed. They chaulk the body, put the police tape up. Most work traffic enforcement 80% of the time and do paperwork the rest of the time. If the police could "protect" you there would be no murders, rapes, robberies,or assults. That is why I carry (X2) my backup.
Police protection is a fallacy. Speeding, no turn signal, DUI...yep. That is it.

I am pleased to have the increased security that the take-home cars give our neighborhoods. We have several State Troopers and County Deputies in our town. I am so thankful for them. However, in some professions, mine included, we MUST be held to higher standards of behavior because we are so visible and so many depend on us!
It would NEVER be acceptable for me to be on call and be drinking, and while it is also NEVER acceptable to drink alcohol and drive,(in ANY amount) it is even less acceptable for someone who has been sworn to uphold our laws. Especially if they are driving a vehicle that has been entrusted to them by the very people they have been sworn to protect.

I am not familiar with the specific procedures for "disciplinary action" in these situations. I can only hope that this officer gets the appropriate grief, stress, AND alcohol counseling that he obviously needs. If he was able to drive at all,(or even function) with a 0.2 alcohol level, this is not a new problem.

My prayers go out to him and all who struggle with this illness.

You have a point and you are correct. I too am an old timer but times are changing and liability has changed significantly. Unfortunately the changes have not been necessarily for the better. Also back in the old days the police were not as visible as they are now. There are too many people out to get the police.
That's right. They can't wait to get a cop's picture on the front page or on the nightly newscast.

Obviously you don't know jack. People don't lose their license the first offense. Some people with multiple offenses are still driving around on valid licenses.
Jack Daniels? Jack Cottey? I know them both well. Helluva guy. Good drinking buddy. Poor sheriff.

At least the policeman wasn't out beating women up in bars cause they would not pay attention to him.

Listen Randy, Karma is a biaatch, he will be punished.

My point is that he made a mistake, he will pay for it and we should give he a second chance.

Everyone deserves a second chance. Even you. So dont be a dummy and put another stupid quote out there.

If I was arrested for DUI and I missed work I could get fired and do jail time. A COP only gets suspended, with pay! I am sure and he will only get probation!
This is wrong, wrong, wrong

Maybe this is his fourth chance and only his first DUI while an elitist, ego-maniac, hypocrit, I mean cop

This is untrue and you know it. This police officer will be treated the same way that you or I would be. He also is losing 10 days of pay on top of everything else.

A police officer is a human being, if they are breaking the law they should be treated just the same as a civilian. They have the same exact rights.

One of my soldiers got an Underage drinking fine and citation aftere getting back Stateside. Go you need to open your eyes and get old. More and more bad cops out there...also, when is an attitude against the law?
About 4 years ago a police officer named Jake Laird went up against a maniac shooting a rifle in a residential area and gave his life trying to protect and serve the people in that neighborhood. He is a hero.

Not too long after that incident a police officer named James Davis was shot dead at Butler University by a maniac roaming the campus. He is a hero.

I am not anti-military. My brother is active duty US Marine Corps, but you must give respect where respect is due.

Well, I guess ten days and loss of the car for a year is the most you could expect someone to give up who TOOK AN OATH TO OBEY EVERY LAW unlike the rest of us whom the laws are forced upon.

What is Metro's discipline for mudering a citizen, A one year suspension and loss of the weapon for five years?

No. Actually, something as serious as a murder carries no penalty at all. The citizen probably had it coming. Get a life, LOSER!

Every police officer is not the same. Just because you were a coward and did not do the right things, do not automatically assume that all police officers are just like you.

If that were the cast, this officer would have never been charged.
