Sickening and saddening that the sales tax will once again be raised to pay for a fat government, and give relief to those that need it the least (ie homeowner).

So my income gets taxed, then when I buy something I pay a tax. So much for the "no double taxation" in the USA.

I guess when you can't reach an agreement on property tax, the answer is to just make EVERYONE suffer thru a higher sales tax.

Just raise taxes, that's always the answer for gov't. Don't spend less, just keep raising taxes.

Please stop the mantra about service cuts or tax increases and move to job elimination programs. This will save alot of money. Yes, cutting people out of the expenses is very hard. Yet, we accept this all the time from corporate america.

Will someone please explain to me how it is saving money? No spending has been cut. The money is just coming from a different pot. Is this the Mayor's plan? If so, all he needs to do now to fulfill his campaign promise is to get the surrounding counties to pick up their fair share of the remaining $40 million and he can run again.

Wow, my tax burden feels lighter already.

The political games being played here are unbelievable. Ballard is taking credit for solving an Indianapolis problem that is being shoved off on the rest of the state. The Republicans at the state level gave him a gift at the expense of the rest of the state. Shame on Ballard for trying to make political hay out of what amounts to a state bailout of Marion County. Peterson did the honorable thing when we found a local solution to a problem that had been created by local government many years before he was mayor.

does this mean that the new tax that the city council gave us last year will be repealed?

Actually Peterstain stood outside the statehouse for two sessions with his stupid signs and his center tower toadies and made more enemies than he did friends. The only credit Peterstain deserves is the legislators were more than happy to give the neophyte Ballard the victory this year.

I can see the state paying for state mandated programs. Why is the state responsible for for city pension funding???

The real solution for these alleged problems...and the one most permanent...IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, MOVE TO CANADA.

There you will be free to bash the US all day and pay fewer taxes and have your prozac delivered to you from the government! Ah sweet bliss.

Pay your share and shut up!!!

By looking at the blog here there are lots o' sour grapes here, hey Peterson was in office for 8 years, Ballard has only been in office for three months, look at the big picture here. In 8 years what can Ballard accomplish? I'll make my decision after those 8, instead of the nay sayers of three months.
The bottom line is after 8 years of Peterson how much did my tax bill go up?

See the comment from Buzz Whitlow for an answer. This was all about the Republicans paying off Ballarrd for knocking off Peterson. Everytime someone in Putnam County, South Bend or anywhere in Indiana buys something, they'll be paying the Marion County debt that Ballard should have had the guts to pay for locally.

By the way, it is no wonder the rest of the state hates Indianapolis.

some of these pensions were funded back in 1937, but once again when there is money not being spent, the politicians fine a way to rob it. just look at the teacher's pension plan, social security. where can we find a honest politician? is there such a thing?

Well said. People in this country are not going to be happy until full blown Communism is in place. The Government should take care of us. We can eat rice and not have cars. Oh what else - No Doctors. They bring nothing to the party except take our money.

GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE. AMERICANS ARE LOOKING MORE IGNORANT EACH DAY.

I don't think the rest of the state will be too happy when they find out a big part of the tax increase is going to pay for the mismanagement of Marion Co. The pensions should never have been underfunded

The pensions were funded. withexcess. state government "borrowed" the money and left several cities, not just indianapolis underfunded. The state finally owned up to mismanagement from previous era.

Ballard is wrong. Marion Co. taxpayers, and taxpayers from around the state still have to fund this. It is nothing but a shift in who steals our money.

You have no clue what being an American is about. It's about speaking out against things with which you disagree without having to worry about being forced to leave the US. If you think those that disagree with you should move to Canada perhaps you should study a little about American history. If you did you would see that the main reason we sought independence to begin is over taxation.
