Your comment is not funny at all! I have met this family and many others plus my own family has had to go through this same thing. These people are very nice and going through a very hard time! They just lost their Mother for God's sake and found out about their Dad! What kind of person are you? Either you don't have a heart or could it be you own a cemetery also?

By the way Keith Mefford is a very honest man and has taken Grandview over and has done a very good job of it too! He is a very honest man and we are trying to do all we can to help him out and see that he keeps it!
We are very fortunate to have Keith and his family and so fortunate to have Morgan and Nay Funeral Home in our town and community!
I just can't wait until the people that stole the money and have done all the wrong to the people That bought at Grandview get what is coming to them, and they will. It just isn't soon enough for us. But their day WILL come.
We just need to get Steve Carter out and someone in that cares about everyone!

This is not what we paid for. We thought we had buried them in vaults only to find them buried in lawn crypts. My father was even buried backwards in his grave. They are right, Steve Carter has done nothing for the people of Madison. Greenwood, it is time to wake up. You will probably find the same types of problems at Forest Lawn. I encourage you to write and call the Attorney General's office and complain. Let your voices be heard. Knowing my father has been in water for more than 16 years is unbearable. Over 3 million is missing from the trust fund as well. It's time to let him know how angry you are for what these crooks have done.
First of all, I'm sorry what you are going through. As a funeral professional, I find it interesting that your father was placed in a lawn crypt instead of a vault and the family wasn't aware of it? Lawn crypts are placed in the ground prior to the property owner buying the plot, so if you or your father bought the plot, the lawn crypt was part of that purchase. On your contract, were you also charged for an additional vault? It is sad to think they scammed you on the casket. Do you have your contract showing what you casket was purchased? If there is anyway to help you, I want to do it. We were very consistent with continued efforts here in Greenwood and the AG. This type of illegal activity blackens the industry as a whole.

Not that this is any help, but caskets have been known to fail. IF your parents purchased plots with lawn crypts, & the casket failed, you could certainly go after the casket manufacturer. YOur FD can help you with that.

People I have seen the new manager, the Nelms, put the wrong cloths on body's and set up the service, give the wrong flowers, put them in the wrong casket.
I have seen him charge for grave side services and no body went to the graveside for a service just direct bury.
I have seen the Nelms do many wrong things like rewrite contracts and sign the persons name.
They say they lose contract when they hide them, they don't forward the info when a pre need has been changed to another firm.
they change the names of there caskets which are Batesville caskets so no one can take it to a firm and get a match in cost, they tell family's so many lies.
I have seen them stick it to there staff at time of need also.
When we try to turn them in for the wrong we get fired and screwed out of our pay checks.
So investigate everything you are sold and if your family bought pre need you better check everything because they will change it.
I have seen them bounce checks, make deals with carpet people and dove people, and many others, sign contracts then say they didn't.
If at time of death you had pre need and didn't use a service you bought because of weather or other conditions you still got charged,if your bill was less then when you bought it you still got charged full price.
I know there are better firms in the area to go to.
Pre need is transferable, beware of the manager there and rest of the staff left.

More Info, and Casket,
I'm sorry but you are not getting the picture. When Grandview was started, they had people go door to door and sell the plots and either at that time or at a later time sell the lawn crypts (vaults). They would tell you that the vaults were sealed and you could put a white handkerchief in it and years from now you could open it and the handkerchief would be as white as the day it was put in there. In most of the cemetery there was no drainage installed and it ws on most of the contracts that with the perpetual care the drainage was either installed or would be. Yes, we know that caskets fail, but when the funeral director gives you the cheapest one instead of the one you paid for, it really fails! I am telling you all the things that are going on down here aren't just a simple thing. They are discusting it is a disgrace. It is inhuman what they have done to us down here. It is gross negligence. THey flat out didn't care and still don't! Do you read the paper?? There was a baby buried in a wooden crate! I'm talking heartless people!! I realize there are good people in the funeral business and not all of them are like the ones we have here. We have a wonderful funeral home here with people who really care and love people and show it every way they can. Also the new owner of the cemetery is also someone who loves and cares about people and would do his best to help anyone. It is the past owners of the cemetery and others. This is very complex. I happen to know that the way they talk to you when you are grieving for your loved one people have to ask questions. This is a time when you can really get punched in the stomach by evil people that don't care about anyone!

Everyone needs to call an attorney that has done business with these people and I recommend, Cohen and malad in Indianapolis. They know about cemetery's that have had this done to them and they really care!!

If this law firm, Cohen & Malad are aware of the situation & know that laws have been broken in Grandview.....then why no satisfaction from the AG and a judge down there? With all of your previous posts about the issues they should be able to help you down there!! If not, I'd suggest you get get a new attorney!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a white handkerchief? Anything white that would be buried with someone, would not be white "years" later for numerous reasons!! I hate to think that your county is full of such naive people, but come on.

I am on the board of a large cemetery outside of Indianapolis. I can't believe this crap goes on...isn't there some kind of audit that looks over the transactions and books? We have reports every month and an audit every year.

Cohen and Malad are helping. They can not bring criminal charges, they can only file a cival suit and that is what has happened in the way of a Class action law suit. We dont have and AG or a prosecutor in ou county at least that has an guts. As far as the lawn crypts go, we were sold a system that was never properly installed. Most of the time, the left out the drainage and just placed the lawn crypt. This has been quite a learning experience.

Bearer, the sellwers were making a point on the lawn crypts, which they never called lawn crytps, they always refered to them as vaults, and said that is the placed a white hankerchief in one and opened it 50 years to place you in itit would be as white and dry as the day it wa splaced there. Of course you would expect that is an air tight, water proff container, now wouldnt you, if that what you were told you were being sold. They have you quite nicely since they saw most of us on the worst day in our whole lives. I personally, was there after the burial of my husband and he had been there 6 weeks before I could even make the trip, due to my injuries from the accident that killed him. They knew they had me, I was a 21 year old kid, no dummy, I assure you, I had worked for 5 years and was aware of the ways of the world, but they lied , lied lied. Had it not been for the greed of the past owners none of this would have ever been known. Thank god for the current owner Keith Mefford., he has told us everything holdiong nothing back. The rest I plan to see in hell. There are some stupid people here, but were are not part of them.

This is a great argument for cremation.

Cement vaults, crypts, ornate caskets-- what's the point of this?

The funeral industry prospers on unnecessary and costly services, taking advantage of an emotional time-- not unlike the wedding industry's business model.

Great point. But that is not what we chose and expect our familes to be treated with digity and respect and we got neither. I dont care what they do with me, by by golly I didnt get what I paid for and I sure didnt pay to be put in a septic tank, what is the same thing. Just remember all thsi when it is time to elect a new Attorney General. This one isnt worth one poop.

They realized there was water under the ground, what they didnt realize was the lawn crypt systems was not installed properly by previous owners because they wated to save that cost and steal the money. I just dont understand why some of you do not understand that we were ripped off. I hope nothing bad ever happens to you and you need our help.
