How stupid do they think we are. Of course there will be a tax increase. The reason they have to do a referendum to get voter approval is because we made them, in the last election, have to get our permission before taking on any new huge projects to be financed with bonds and paid for with property taxes. So of course, if our little county decides to build a new county hospital costing hundreds of millions of dollars, and they're talking about financing it with bonds, and they have to get authorization from the voters in a referendum vote, then its going to cost us tax dollars. There are lots and lots of people out there that want to spend our money. But voters in Marion County have to be careful what we authorize them to do. Because there's only so much money, and they'll spend us blind. Just close Wishard down. There are so many new hospitals in Central Indiana with occupancy availability. I will vote no.

I think the question should be 'do we need the current Wishard?'

I will vote yes, it will keep the riff-raff downtown, where they belong. That way the hospitals in my affluent area can concentrate on the important stuff like liposuction and breast augmentation, and send the gunshot wounds, etc. to Wishard.

Yes, because the other hospitals already have a huge wait in the ER, try up to 6 hours.

Try: I don't believe you.

I have never seen a wait in any ER around here (first hand) that was more than an hour (when I had a significant allergic reaction). It's near zero if you actually NEED a doctor (e.g., a geriatric family member who was having chest pains) vs. just having some sniffles. Half or more of the patients don't NEED an ER and THAT'S the real issue.

Sometimes people do have to go thru the ER just to be seen by the clinic. My sister just had a stroke and she has high blood pressure and diebetes, she doesn't have any kind of insurance and one hospital sent here home with sugar levels in the 300's with no insulin, or high blood pressure meds and she had to wait a week to get any of those meds she needs. She signed up for the wishard advantage program because there are issues with her liver now (swollen to the point you can see it thru her clothes) and the clinic told her the next apppointment she could come for was in October, she CAN NOT wait that long. If she was to go thru the ER the Dr's there would set up an appointment for her then. Sometimes the hospitals are so messed up from mismanagement and soforth that people have to go the route they wouldn't have gone in a normal situation just to get the help they need. Yes the hospital needs to be updated but I think most of the changes needs to be done with the people in charge instead of the facilities.

Clem I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, based on my recent experiences. My girlfriend's grandfather recently had 2 strokes. The first time, we rushed him to the ER at St. Francis South (a relatively new and nice hospital) and the wait there ended up being about 7 hours (5 in the ER and 2 in a room waiting for a doctor). The second time, we went through Methodist (terrible place) and it took 5 hours to see a doc. Both times the stroke symptoms were very, very apparent.

I have no complaints with Methodist, they saved my life 6 years ago and we have always made it thru the ER in at least 3 hours or less( that is including the wait, seeing the Dr and the release process). The hospital that sent my sister home after her stroke with no meds was Community East. Even the nurses did not think she should be released, but thats what happens with no insurance and the Hospitals and Dr's are only there for their paychecks, not because they have a true concern for the patients. They are only there for the money.

Why don't we use the current Wishard for the immigrant population? Rename it Los Hospitalos? They seem to be the only people in other ER waiting rooms...

True, I suppose I was a little harsh on Methodist; they did save my life as well after a car accident, I'm just a little jaded after a pretty bad incident following surgery. This was due more to a particular employee than to the hospital itself.

I thought that might be the case, I had one nurse after my surgery that wasn't shall I say "nurse of the year". By luck I only had her for one shift and then I was able to go home, the other 4 days I had no complaints. I see your point though, one bad employee can sour you the whole bunch sometimes.

Methodist saved my life twice. St. Vincent's is a rathole full of greedy sods. Wishard also saved a friend's fingers when he cut off 4 fingers at work so keep the jumped up white-trash north of 86th St. Medicine will be practiced downtown.

wait time at methodist is the least of the worries, stay clear of the icu, if the texting and giggling crowd screws up you dont even want to know what they will do to cover up.Dont even think about complaining, the little girls are not to be messed with. The nanny cam tells it all

No we need people that will pay their bills. Wishard provides more dead beat care than regular care.
