From last July:

http://www.theindychannel.com/news/24372440/d...

"2 Five Indianapolis Popeyes restaurants all owned by Will Pace collectively owe nearly $5 million in back taxes that have been accumulating since 2003, state officials told 6News' Rafael Sanchez.

"On Friday, Pace agreed to pay a lump sum of $100,000 to the state by Monday, send monthly installments to state and to sell the restaurants within six months.

"If a payment is missed, the state has been given the authorization to close the restaurants."

No big myster to this.

I've had problems almost everytime I've stopped to eat at any Popeyes Resturant.

The help behind the counter were almost all black people, and their attitude towards me, a white person, was very obvious, I was not talked to in a polite or friendly manner.

I was made to wait longer than anyone else, even people who came in after me, and ordered, would get their food before I would.

While at the Resturant on the Northside, another white person picked up on the same feelings as I felt and mentioned it to the person behind the cashier, and he was told that he was just gonna have to wait his turn.

No reason behind this, like,..

"Im sorry, your Spicy Chicken is still in the Frier, but it will be out in one minute."

It was obvious to see that the blacks who ate at this resturant got greeted friendly, and was given much better service, than white people.

I was never treated "Bad",...but rather they just made sure I wasnt treeted good, like any good resturant, or business should.

Im surprised there wasnt some kind of blowback before now.

I used to go to the "SOUL FOOD KITCHEN" on Sherman Drive, and 30th, and was overwhelmed by the kindness these Ladies bestowed upon me for visiting their little kitchen,..Fridays was the best,...
FISH smothered in Mustard, Ketsup and Hot Sauce,
now that was GREAT !

I agree with most of your statement. The few times I stopped at the PoPeyes on Washington. People weren't very friendly. I wonder how anyone expects to stay in business in a trying economy with rude help, bad customer service will close any business.

Its not just you as a white person..........maybe its the people themselves. I am black and received the same service. Anytime I went to a Popeyes all the crew members had attitudes. There's no racial boundaries at all. They were rude to EVERY single person. Its very unfortunate and sad that even with the surveys they do people act the same way! I went to the one in Devington and the only person in there that was nice was the one that thought I was cute. He would always try to talk to me and pass me his number. But the others were completely rude!! No matter your race!

I frequented the Popeye's on 38th St and hadn't really received this kind of treatment, at least not that I noticed; however, often the dark, spicy chicken I ordered was regular, white meat and the strips my girl ordered were pieces, not strips.

In a somewhat related experience, I was eating in this same location one afternoon and a girl came in, sat down, bantered with the staff (who seemed to know her) and she proceeded to try and sell bootleg DVDs (burned DVD-Rs), from a CD wallet, to every patron as they came in or left, except me, the sole white guy in there. I don't care that she ignored me but more the fact she was permitted by the staff to sell these bootleg movies on the premesis, bothering customers. I did take her photo and post it on facebook so my friends could berate her.

Point being, the lax service and permitted solicitation by 3rd parties couples with the clientele where many wanted the world in their paper bag and would argue at length if it wasn't delivered are some of the probably many reason, beyond the taxes, causing this business owner to bankrupt.

I do hope someone else picks up the franchise and re-opens it; I love that chicken!

The things black people accept, condone and tolerate will always keep them down.

In this case it was the crooked black men that owned these franchises.

My experience has been that black businesses are almost always slow to pay, difficult with deliveries, expect exceptions to the basic procedures and guidelines and usually operate close to, if not in, the grey areas that make regular businesses not want to deal with them.

I LOVE Popeye's Chicken. I was pretty happy to see one open on W Washington St, esp since it seems that area was getting nothing of significance opening there. I'm a friendly, polite person to anyone and I have to say, every single time I went to this Popeye's, the employee's could not have been more rude. They would never respond except to repeat whatever it was THEY said. There was never a please or thank you, even though my side of the order was peppered with them. When taking my money, they acted like I didn't exist, never looking at me or acknowledging me. It's too bad they closed, but it was probably only a matter of time with employees (and managers) like that.

WOW above get a life seemed completly and utterly racist and just plain stupid. The staff was mixed at popeyes and yes they were rude and mean to everyone and often mess up your order. It had nothing to do with race at all. When blacks throw out the race card whites go crazy and think we use it abusivly but here ya are rambling like a bunch of idiots about race. I wish I was in that popeyes with you guys I would treat ya dumb selves mean to if you like and act racist people might not like you bottom line. I may have smacked you guys!!

I've been to popeys on occasion and as a african american I was treated the same way. Bad service, the people behind the counters act as though they could care less. So busy running their mouths about what they are going to do or did over the weekend. And don't dare ask for a napkin, or condiments you think you were asking for something out of the norm. Hmmmmm, I bet they wish they had a job now.

I really love Popeye's food. Every time I fly through Atlanta, I make it a point to stop at the airport Popeye's. Its the most diverse restaurant in the airport. Making MLK Jr proud in his grave. I frequent the Popeyes on the northeast side. Just north of where I65 and 865 converge. I too am also white, and it usually is pretty diverse in there. Staff and clientale. I usually have a good experience there. It saddens me to hear the over generalisations above because of race. I think it just happens to be the individuals and their lack of respect for themselves and others, white or black. I disappoint myself because in all honesty I would probably drive by the Popeyes in other indy locations because I would expect that kind of treatment. maybe I would, maybe I wouldnt...anyways, reading this made me upset that we arent as far along as we should be about race relations. White people like this need to stop over generalizing and prejudging. Black people like this need to have more respect for themselves and others. In a service job, you have to put others first. Its called service, serve people. Restaurant owners shouldnt hire people tht dont like to do this. It only makes them look bad, makes their rest. unprofitable, and eventually bleeds their restaurant dry and the gov. takes it over like in this case. sad sad sad...all around
