Kemps gets in his kicks in title game

In the end, Carmel's offense didn't have to rely on the strong arm of quarterback Morgan Newton, the soft hands of receiver Jordan Brewer or the swift legs of backs Kurt Freytag and Aaron King. Full Story

Just wish that the referees had brought their glasses to the game.

Kudos to both teams for making it to the State Finals, but there were some blatant mistakes last night.

I am a female & fairly knowledgable about football and I know what I saw.

Again, both teams played well, and the kids were SO excited to be playing in the dome. I could excuse one mistake by the ref's, but there were more than necessary. Seeing the replays on the big screen just made it worse.

The title game refs were supposed to be the best.
It was their amateur hour at the Dome.

As an impartial observer, that was blatantly bad - one sided officiating.

Congratulations to Pike for such a great season. You have shown that an integrated middle income township school can have a disciplined approach and demand excellence. Hopefully all the other township AD's and Coaches will take note and strive for the same.

A difference of 13 yard in penalties and you are saying that was the difference in the game? You've got to come up with something better than that.

It's always fun and interesting to read the post game comments. Every excuse of why things went the wrong way usually come down to a couple of calls by the coach or poor officiating. These posts are no different. The penalties by both teams last night all seemed big because they usually happened on big plays, or they were out in the open (or sideline-each team had an unsportsmanlike) where all 30,000 people could see it.
-Carmel roughing the passer (right in front of ref)
-Carmel block in the back on Pike's qb(right in front of ref)
-Pike block in the back (between back #'s) on long cut back run (right in front of ref)
-Pike block in the back on punt return (right in front of back judge)

What someone needs to praise was the hard hitting defensive play by both squads and how Carmel dominated the game in the special teams category and starting field position, which is why the Greyhounds WON the game.
Congrats on great season's to both Carmel and Pike.

Carmels #83, Jacob LaRosa, knew he did not make the catch and after the replay so did everyone else! It's a shame that the poor officiating dictated the pace of the game. It seems as though there was no way the officials were going to let Carmel lose that game. Shame on them for taking away what should have been a great game from 2 great teams.

When I played for Pike in the '70's, we were just happy if we kept the other team under 60. Kudos to the guys for getting to this point, and let's build on this success!

Officials let Carmel lose the game?
What about the interception returned for a touchdown? That was points taken away from Carmel. Quit grabbing for straws, or your flag.

Again, look at the 3 aspects of football and it becomes very evident why Pike lost. Carmel played great in all 3 aspects, Pike only showed up in 2 of those.

PS-Officiating is not one of those aspects.

Derek Moyers; Coach of the Year!
Congrats on a great season and new foundation for Pike's future success. Pike is now known as another Marion County powerhouse... that has now risen from the dead because of coaching...the athletes have always been there. What a great high school football story you wrote this year for us all.
until next year!

Stop all the crying with all these bandwagon Pike fans...Where was you guys when they was winning 1 or 2 games a year. You can tell who been there before and who have not, Carmel won the game and Pike will not see the Dome for another 70 years:)

I'm pretty sure there is a LOT of money in Carmel ... and tonight (with the number of penalities called on Pike), it showed where some of that may go ... refs, anyone?
I'm from Carmel and I'll give you a dollar if you can explain how a 13 yard difference in penalties cost Pike the game.

Mistakes were made on both sides. The refs called (too) tight of a game, especially compared to last year! Good thing Carmel fans knew going in that no matter who won, they would take crap for bad refs or cheating or whatever else sore losers throw out there. Champions are used to that! All that matters is that the trophy is at CHS. If Carmel's offense had actually showed up, this would've been a blow out. Pike couldn't handle Carmel's defense.

No--it SEEMS as though the refs were NOT going to let Carmel lose this game, get it right! If you have ever followed football you should know that poor officiating can and does have a direct effect on the outcome of a game and can most diffinetly swift momentum. I'm not "grabbing at straws" It SEEMS that nearly everyone saw the bad officiating, except you. I guess, maybe, we all see what we want to see. Mistakes were made on both sides and there were some good calls made by the refs. I'm not taking away from Carmel, for they did step up and capitalize on Pikes mistakes and that alone would have been enough to win. All I'm saying is that a game of this caliber deserved much better officiating. You're right though, it is fun and interesting to read all the comments! Have a good day!

No--If Pikes offense would have showed up it would have been a blowout. It was a defensive game and both played defense well. It was Carmels special teams and Pikes lack of special team that made the difference.
