I thought I was the only one that remembered him from my childhood too. It's definitely an Indy thing. I used to love watching him and all the scary movies.

How many people remember Sammy Terry?
Honestly, I had know idea that it was just an Indiana thing. To funny huh...for years I would talk about Sammy Terry to people, thinking they knew who the hek I was talking about....Well unless your from Indiana, you'll have no clue who he is. I would even try to imitate his voice when he's talking to his pet spider GEORGE and when he would say GOOD EVENING. I know everyone is probably thinking I'm such a dork, but I don't care. I Just wanted something happy on this forum for once.
I grew up in ohio and if i remeber, he was on firday or saturday night, and i used to watch him on channel 4 on our cable. I also used to watch the cool ghoul in fox here in ohio, don't know if anyone on here remebers him. Those were the good old day when they had good stuff on tv.

Do they allow fans to visit him in his assisted living center. I would so very much like to meet the man that could terrify me more than any other!

Just walking into an "assisted living center" is terrifying enough as is.

In looking at ALL of the Sammy Terry sites I am still trying to find out if he is still alive. I am wanting to get a direct email for him. I still need to verify with my mom, but I remember my dad telling me that he worked and knew the gentleman who played Sammy Terry. That didn't seem to matter, he still lured me to watch him every Friday night, he was great! It was great to go down memory lane with his YouTube clips.
yes he is still alive in a nursing home in indianapolis ,i saw him yesterday

You are a liar, he is not dead, he's still alive , but his health is getting worse. If you were really related to him you would know this.

I just read that some of you wanted to know if you could visit him in the nursing home, the answer to that is no. The family used to allow it but his health has taken a turn for the worse very recently and they no longer allow the public to visit him. He wants everyone to remember him how he was, not the condition he is in now, please respect the man and his wishes.

I just heard Sammy on WIBC, and not only is Sammy still undead, but he's doing his 50th Anniversary show on WTTV tonight at 10:00PM EDT. What a treat! And, of course, George will be accompanying Sammy. I can't wait!!

I grew up in Indy in the 60's and the 70's and moved to the NW in the 80's. i just happened upon this blog and am having some awesome flashbacks. My brother and sister went to Howe HS and I went to Our Lady of Lourdes. Even though this string of posts is old I had to say I love Indy and have great memories of my childhood!

Sad to report:

INDIANAPOLIS - Thousands of Hoosiers are just learning of the passing of an Indianapolis television icon.

Bob Carter, also known as Sammy Terry, has died at the age of 83.

Carter created the character of "Sammy Terry" in the 1960s for a late-night horror movie show on channel 4.

For 37 years, Sammy Terry climbed out of a coffin on Nightmare Theater wearing a cape and skull cap. His evil chuckle earned the adoration of fans.

Carter's props included a spider named George. His son Mark, dubbed "Ghoulsby," was also on the show, which aired horror films from the 1930s and 40s.

Carter also owned a music store on Shadeland Ave. for 35 years, where he offered piano lessons, repaired band instruments and sold sheet music. He was an active supporter of the Special Olympics.

Funeral arrangements are still being made, but are not expected to include a public viewing.
