Byetta seems to be working fairly well with me. I do have upset stomach with an occasional low glucose reading.

It comes in a 5 and 10 mg dose. I cant seem to handle the 10. Weight loss has occurred which is a good side benefit.

Hopefully this new version will be well accepted and work as intended.

This drug is made from the enzymes of saliva of the gila monster.:)

Also known amongst the community as "lizard spit."

The drug works quite well as long as one can keep up with the schedule. I found it difficult to keep up with the dinner time injections since I ate at different times and at different locations.

Even though I'm on another drug, similar in nature, I sincerely hope the doctors don't go off the deep end and start prescribing it as a weight loss drug. I've heard plenty of stories about how this may happen and it is wrong.

The drug is for diabetics not for overweight non-diabetics who can't control their eating.

'nuff said.

Actually Byetta (Exenatide) is a synthetic version of a hormone found in the salivia of the Gila monster, exendin-4. It's not taken from the animal, but it a man-made copy of the hormone.

Oh, and it's not an enzyme. It's a hormone. A whole different kind of chemical.

I've been on the 10 mg dose since Feb. I occasionally have an upset stomach that doesn't last long. My appetite is curbed considerably and I have lost 40 lbs. My last test results were excellent;however I have also changed my eating habits concentrating on more fruits and vegetables and less red meat. The best part is that I feel so much better.

Is this medication strictly for Type 2, or can Type 1 Diabetics use it to?

Hello,
Thank you for the support. I have had 2 more days of not keeping anything down and am very discouraged. I also keep having lows during the midle of the day. I am 36 and at the beginnings of diabetes with marginal numbers. My doctor has suggested that I just try taking Byetta one time a day enstead of 2. Has anyone tried this?

Hi Roy, Byetta is only for type 2 diabetics it doesn't replace insulin injection. The company that makes it also makes another drug that is for type 1 diabetics and type 2 that use insulin and promotes weight loss also. I don't remember the name of it but the companys name is Amlin I think. If the company name is wrong you can get it off of the byetta.com web site.

I have been on Byetta 10 pen for 1 month now. My bs is better than ever. At first, I would go low every night, which I hated, but that seems to have abated. I haven't lost any weight, but still in all this drug is amazing! I would recommend to anyone. Occasionally I do have a bit of nausea, but nothing I can't handle. I notice it more with fatty foods (e.g., pizza). I don't eat near as much as I did and feel very satisfied. I eat the same things I always have, just less of them. Am turned off to french fries for some reason :)

I started with the 5 and my doctor changed my dosage to the 10 and I got sick and broke out in hives. Now she will be putting me on something different. I did lose some weight.

You need to look up symlin. It's almost the same. I am on insulin, but my doctor is going to try byetta with me instead because it has better weightloss results.

This article is outdated. While Byetta did prove to be a popular drug for treating diabetes, it also seemed to led to increased risk of thyroid or pancreatic cancer, recent studies claim. There are pending lawsuits now against the manufacturer for failing to issue proper warnings about the diabetic drugs recent findings. You may refer to http://byetta-lawsuits.co for helpful info.

Byetta has been marketed as a successful medication for treating type-2 diabetes. It is one of the first class of drugs that is tolerable to patients with renal impairment and can be combined with other classes of diabetic medication to increase effectiveness of blood sugar control. Patients should also be mindful of the dangers of taking Byetta which have been linked to pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. You may check http://byetta-pancreatic-cancer-lawsuit.net/d... for further information.
