It's gone, get over it! You can't go into work with dear old uncle Bill and instantly be a welder because uncle Bill pulled some good ol boy strings. You can't sleep at work and get drunk in the parking lot at the GM plant and keep a job because of Uncle Bill. I'm sure there is still some of it going on with the union shops but not much longer.
I listened to a hill billy guy going on about needing a piece of paper to do anything in America now and he was dead on. Certifications for everything, documentation to the smallest detail. Liability and being accountable is the name of the game now. We are no longer the biggest bully on the block and we have to compete with the whole world.
When I read all of the crying, I see dejected members of the good ol boy program.

Gasp, it's over? There would have to be jobs to allow the good old boy system to proceed.

Your the worst of the cry babies on here, Kappy and a prize example of a lazy American. Your not a Patriot, but a punk. Hitler made better since then your rants. You want to blame everyone but yourself for the state of America. I have a piece of paper that shows I am drug free and just tested last week. So go cry to your Uncle Bill about how 12% of Americans ruined the country, but stay away from the mirror, you might see one of the guys that actually caused it.

You are right on the money here. The unions are still around, but most of them now operate in the public sector and represent government (go figure). Private industry has wised up and recognized that unions are counter-productive to growth and commercial success. We are in the middle of a transition period where all of the uneducated folks need to find different careers. Factory labor isn't guaranteed.

Yuo get ahead in this world with skills, credentials, and relationships. You have to really want success to get it. Build your contacts, educate yourself, and learn how to do things that people will pay you to do.

Why did obummer bail them out? Would have been better off letting them file bankruptcy. So is it really the good ol boy syndrome or just democrats supporting a dying way. Unions were good back when they started. But over time they got too much power and took advantage of it.

Disagree. Unions by the nature of what they do are counter-productive and self-serving. They do not have any interest in growing industry or making their members wealth. They are only interested in growing their union and will destroy jobs in the process if it suits their agendas. It amazes me that liberals are drawn to them because what they do is exactly what they accuse corporate America of doing.

I wouldn't know. I did not even put fuel in my truck. Somebody did it for me at the terminal. If I did, that would be taking another members job.

Guess you didn't get to take full advantage of your union rights. Lot lizards are a benefit. This also applies to the big 3 auto makers getting to get drunk at work and go out to bars and get plastered during work hours.
The system is working great as you see.

Look at Muncie , Anderson , new castle , Kokomo , Indy. Chrysler , ford, gm , delco all have terminated employees with no skill. They go from $30 an hour to no skill making $10. There goes the boat , truck , 300k home. Now were all paying for there loss. Yes what person wouldn't want that kinda money. But if they were paid a honest wadge say $20 and made to work a full 8 hrs and not 3 hrs it be safe to say them shops would be open. The union ruined it for Americans.

Unions were good when they first started. There were horrible working conditions. Men would loose limbs , fingers , some there life. Hoffa took it to the extreme and made a honest man lazy.

You mean like today when most jobs are not part-time with no benefits?
No seniority? When they can fire you because they don't like the color of you hair? Then after working for 45 years, step out the door with nothing.

That is still a risk in any industrial environment. As technology has evolved, there is less hands-on operation of equipment, but there are certain jobs that are still very dangerous. The unions did not really make it safer, advances in technology have made it safer. Unions were and always have been interested in only one thing...increasing the revenue of the union.
