Good luck Ballard. Why don'nt you also include all the old employees of the Hudnut and Goldsmith political machine who came out of the woodwork to get a job in your administration. These are the same people who got the city in the financial mess before peterson was mayor.

Hey Hunter, you left out the words "the last three gullible" between "for" and "people".

By the way Mitch updated the ethics rules when he got in. The changes allowed him to accept $600 in graft every month in the form of the Graft Mobile.

You gotta respect a well crafted scam.

Oh Please. I've lived in this city for over 40 years. Peterson was the classic Democrat. He paid more money for window dressing than than anything substantive. The Circle Center Mall was the brainchild of the Republicans you so despise. At least that place has made some money for us. Jim Irsay is at the size 38 DD teat of government taking his fill leaving scraps for the rest of us. Yeah, Peterson did a GREAT job. He did such a great job that all the jerks that don't want to work can still get food, shelter and clothing while those of us who put in more than 60 hurs a week are getting royally reamed. Republicans and Democrats both are guilty of believing the citizens work for the government and not the other way around. I'm thrilled to see Ballard taking charge. Since the Republican Party couldn't see fit to give him support he has absolutely no chits to pay to the machine.

At least it's out in the open now. The party of socialism not only took the money and the favors, they kept it in the dark so we had no idea what was going on. If you're sick of not getting your money's worth, stop voting for a letter of the alphabet and vote Libertarian. We won't be coddled from cradle to grave, but we certainly will be free as we once were.

That is a strange idea of IMPD Officers not being able to run for City County Council. Would that mean Officers are exempt from paying taxes? I mean how can you be made to pay taxes yet not be able to have the full rights and benefits of being a citizen???
This kind of logic would preclude City/County employees from voting for Mayor because the outcome would effect their employment!

Don't be so naive. Ballard owes the Republican Party a lot more then you think. He owes Barnes and Thornburg even more.

Nothing wrong with what he is proposing, but don't think for a minute he isn't taking care of himself. A politician is a politician.

You still don't get it do you? The republican party didn't stand behind him when he ran for mayor so the other poster is right. As for Barnes and Thornburg what is it that you think he owes them? He ran as he own person and has never been a politician before becoming mayor of Indianapolis. Being in the Marine Corps does not count as being a politician. So before you open your mouth about things you don't know anything about you need to do some research before you go saying things you know nothing about. It shows you have never been in the service either if you think for one minute that a service person is a politician. You just mad because your spend freak Peterson got beat in the election by the better person. You Peterson supporters need to except the fact that he got beat and is not going to be back spending the city into so much dept that it will take the taxpayers the next 100 years to pay off. So get over it. I think he is doing a pretty good job so far being the mess that he was left by Peterson and all of his cronies that ran Indianapolis into the ground.

Do these new ethics rules apply to my brother too? It sounds like he can take all the gifts and goodies he wants but city employees can't. Sounds fair to me! Just as long as his family can continue to cash in!

Seriously now, can you really use the words 'ethics','Mayor Greg Ballard','lobbyists','municipa l employees', and 'City-County council' ALL in the SAME sentence? My side is still hurting from laughing so much.

“...how can you be made to pay taxes yet not be able to have the full rights and benefits of being a citizen???” Obviously, you never spent a day in the military serving our great country. With your logic, our military members should be exempt from paying any taxes, but you would whine about that, too.

Some jobs are done in the name of service, but I guess the majority of our society is too self-consumed.

Back down there, Bucky! The message you flame is well thought out, clearly stated, and makes perfect sense. The gentleman/woman is merely offering up their opinion. Apparently you disagree. However, there's no need to lash out. Whatever argument you are trying to make is lost in the hysteria of your post.

I'm a Democrat, and I'm for the idea of beefing up our ethics rules. I tip my hat to the mayor for even trying. BUT, man, he blew a golden opportunity when he appointed Lincoln Plowman. He could have created a clear line between council and executive. Instead, he muddied the water.

Great line...unfortunately, because of the Mayor's sill appointment, it just went bi-partisan. Now it's the Gray/Plowman ordinance.
