Can any of you anti voter ID people answer this? Is the current system of a person walking into a precinct and give the workers only a name and then receive a ballot to vote a good system?

The 'other way' is to end voter registration. Run it all through the bmv, since probably 95-99% of voters will have an indiana i.d.
If the bmv is good enough for pulling your name for jury duty, it should be just fine for voter registration purposes. After all, you're supposed to update your address with the bmv when you move too. This also would be much more efficient when it comes to assigning voting locations.
Eventually, we should be able to walk into a voting center, swipe our id, and have a custom ballot print.
Sounds OK, but I think you just moved voter registration to the BMV, which by the way makes sense to me. I also like the swiping ID idea. Bottom line.... there isn't ANY logic in not verifying who is receiving a ballot to vote.

Come on! How else will the illegals get to vote for Hill Roy or Obamanation. I'll bet 10 to 20 percent of the Iowa Dems that cast a ballot in the Iowa caucus process were Illegals.

Why is this even an issue?

You can't even buy beer or rent a video without ID.

No ID. No vote.

And where in the Constitution are we given the right to vote? The Constitution says very little about voting, primarily leaving the regulation up to dates and determining on what basis it cannot be denied (race/sex). And how exactly do you propose to determine who is "legal" to vote if not to require valid ID indicating that they are in fact who they say they are? Regardless of party, I imagine you would scream quite loudly if your candidate lost because voters were able to slip through the cracks in the system and elect the opponent.

Ponder this.. In the history of voting in this country there have been several rules that have come and gone and been modified going back to the Articles of Confederation.(Before the Constitution).
To vote you hade to be
Educated( meaning read right and speak ENGLISH!)
Free-
A Land owner
and a Man - Women didn't get this option until 1920.

Imagine showing up to vote and having to show proof of land ownership ( a Deed or Military land Grant)

Education- A degree in hand from a University or stand there at the polling place and read a Bible verse word for word to prove literacy

Free- At that time loosely translated-- white not Black or Native American.

(Before the haters show up,, I AM NATIVE AMERICAN!!)

And prove you were a man,, Hmmph?? think about that one...

The identity thing normally meant a Baptismal certificate as most births were never recorded except for by the Church.

Showing an Indiana Drivers license, Military ID or dependent ID, Sheriff non-driver ID card is fairly simple compared to all that had to be proven previously.

Those against the law, as an inconvenience need another cause to take up,, or go on a lengthy trip outside the US.

Oh wait, no passport ( an acceptable form of ID) You can't get back into the US

OOOOhh!!!!!

No ID. No vote.
It's not an issue assuming you have an ounce of common sense. It's only an issue if your agenda is supporting voter fraud or if you're extremely naive.

Please see Gary Varvel's best of 2007 cartoon editorials. You have to show ID everywhere else, why not to vote and why are people having such a hard time with this. Hurry up a make it a law now before we have some Mexican Drug Cartel kingpin put his name in the hat. You'll have every illegal immigrant coming out to vote and then the US will be Mexico North, not that it already isn't. Home of the illegals and land of the Mexicans.

Time to get over it. If the state of politics and voting had not sunk to such a level then this wouldn't be necessary. The liberals are PO'ed because they have been able to take advantage and skirt rules to get people to the voting box. The conservatives don't want the extra cost and process. But with the situation that the illegals present, this is the only prudent thing to do.

They should be kept out of the polling booth if they can't prove who they say they are.
