Elders meet Peres over stalemate in peace process

Oct 21, 2012 Full story: Jerusalem Post

Though not exactly the most popular figure in Israel, due to his advocacy for Palestinian statehood based on Israeli withdrawal from most of the territories captured in the 1967 war, former US President Jimmy Carter continues to return in the hope of being a pivotal figure in a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians, just as he was ... Someone who might really be able to help on this is Gro Harlem Brundtland. I worked with her, when she was President of the World Conservation Strategy. The Oslo Accords where authored in Norway, by its Foreign Minister, and with Gro Harlem Brundtland being former Prime Minister of Norway, hopefully she can resuscitate life back into them. I am afraid Jimmy Carter is past his prime.

Paraphrasing Natanyahu...(ohhh, by the way, Happy Birthday, Prime Minister.. and many more..!!)... paraphrasing, I was saying .... why ... why instead of devoting their time, energy, clout, influence and global prestige ...(well, actually ....BiBi didn't put it that way..).... why those imitation Elders of Zion don't put their heavy artillery in Damascus ... if they are honestly and sincerely concerned about the well being of innocent people in the Middle East..??

Honestly ... more than 30.000 victims in a year and a half... do you hear me Carter..??

How about you Mandela..??

... or is this a collective capricious ego trip on safe grounds..??

... was just a thought ...

Fortunately, the relationship between Israelis and Palestinians is not on the same level as the Syrian Civil War. Which means a two-state solution is still workable. In Syria, more people are going to die. The situation there has to be dealt with on its own terms. But the terms for Israeli-Palestinian peace was started with the Oslo Accords, it just has not been finished.

Yes, yes, yes .... yessss.. OSLO..!!

Did you know ..... did you know Oslo had already a Bar Mitzvah ... and just a few weeks ago we finished celebrating 20 years of the Oslo fiasco..??

That plane kept taxiing on the runway and never took off...

And the next worst thing about it ... number two ... nobody knows what to replace it with...

Shimon Peres' New Middle East got flushed down the toilett ... with all the consequences associated to it..

Oslo as a concept was based (from our side)on a wishful thinking and a wrong idea put on the table without collateral...

By nature, I'm very curious.... this time is no exception. Since you mentioned Oslo and the fact that it didn't get too far...let's see if you remember Tim .....where did WE intellectualy (because it was not an operational mistake)go wrong ...... where did 'we' intellectually go wrong when we boarded Oslo..??

The problem with the Oslo Accords, is that there was no strong mediator to preside over it. There was only Bill Clinton, but he left office before anything substantial could be done. George W. Bush just had his vague hands off "Road Map To Peace." Obama just had his one meeting in Washington, D.C. There needs to be a mediator who can say "you can do that" or "you cannot do that." Vladimir Putin has offered to do so, but there has not been anything more out of the Quartet, which Russia is a part of. The Russian Bear needs to come out of hibernation.
