The first thing Obama needs to do is get Al, 'I invented the internet' Gore back in the game. On positive note, I have 2,000 carbon credits available for sale. $3K@. At these pre-climate change vow prices, I will require cash or money order. Get them before electricity prices triple. Free shipping.

The earth's atmosphere has slowly become warmer since the end of the last ice age.

Prior to that it was very cold DURING the last ice age. And BEFORE THAT it was warm and melted the ICE before that one.

A cycle of ice age and melting, ice age and melting.

Mother nature is determined to keep earth balanced over the LONG term of tens of thousands of years.

Two centuries is like comparing the weather between two years.

Look at the BIG PICTURE.

How LONG has it been since the last ice age?? <a little more than the 200 years you speak of>

Wouldn't you agree that for the ICE from the Ice Age to melt, there had to be a significant warming trend?

“Last Glacial Maximum- a time, around 20,000 years ago, when much of the Earth was covered in ice. The average global temperature may have been as much as 10 degrees Celsius colder than that of today. The Earth has a long history of cycles between warming and cooling. Currently we are in an interglacial period where warming has occurred for about 15,000 years.”

http://www.atmos.washington.edu/2001Q1/211/Gr...

If you look at the graph you will see a very consistent PATTERN of general warming followed by cooling over tens of thousands of years. More ice, then less ice; more ice, then less ice.

You are correct to show that we are currently in the warming period, with less ice. A thirty year observation is a very narrow look at the whole earth-time temperature pattern.

Earth warming unprecedented in last 20,000 years

However, Svante Björck, a climate researcher at Lund University in Sweden, has now shown that global warming – that is, simultaneous warming in both the northern and southern hemispheres – has not occurred in the past 20 000 years, since the end of the last ice age. That is as far back as it is possible to analyze with sufficient precision to compare with modern developments, he said, adding:

What is happening today is unique from a historical geological perspective.

Personally,I could give a flying crap about warming/cooling/change. WhatEVER it is-it is going to take longer than anyone on here will live to REALLY see what is the climate reality we face. In thye meantime we have an unemployment rate ( the REAL rate) thru the roof. The economy sux. The President and Congress can't seem to find their collective azzes with BOTH hands and radar. And people are are concerned about sh1t they will never live to see..... Folks we have REAL problems that CAN be addressed in the short life span we are given. Let the "Climate change" people pound f**king sand. I'd rather see change in this Country we can effect NOW with results we can live to see......
