They are debating in Question Time right now, the homeless situation in Australia.

Labour has only allocated 12 months funding to try to 'fix' this problem and will give no guarantee that the funding will continue.

Perhaps if they gave a little of the aid monies sent overseas, towards addressing our own problems here instead, things just might improve.

Perhaps if they stopped giving priority to refugee housing/accommodation, there would not be so many AUSTRALIAN's homeless.

Perhaps if they stopped funding refugees for every single bloody thing THEY need to set up house in Australia - like ALL the basics - and gave some of that money to the homeless to resettle into accommodation.....

And, refugees are "miserable" in detention???

They've got a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in, and all other necessary amenities.

They are fed with their own brand of HALAL foods, and earn "points" with which to trade (NOT BUY) for smokes etc...

They have a fully equipped recreational room, they are given mobile phones with FREE calls, they can ring 'home' with a limit of 15 minutes put on their calls... 15 minutes overseas calls on a mobile phone???... which WE pay for!

And THEY'RE f'in "MISERABLE"???
yeah right

I agree, but what I was getting at was only in reference to the 'old' meaning of the word, at least monetary payment is made, for whatever underhanded reasons. Unlike the PARASITES and LEACHES who do NOT deserve to be called "clients".
THEY are the PEOPLE SMUGGLERS clients NOT MINE!
That word being used in reference to refugees has always irked me no end and the more I see it the madder I get... so they are MY clients who I PAY to be MY clients?????
I see what you mean.

But you also PAY for the 'clients'(aka 'students') who come here in droves to buy a degree and therefore get PR.

And then your kids pay for it when they can't get jobs. Pay and pay and pay...

Fries with that anyone?

Leave Iran to the Jews. Nothing to do with us. Israel will fix them well & good.

Public housing will die and governments will somehow privatise it. It would cost governments tens of billions just to get public housing back to the levels of 20 years ago and that would be a tiny drop in the ocean to what is needed.

I don't get it.
Civil libertarians are in the way of progress.
For the last couple of years I have been of 1 opinion only:
Let them shower, give them lunch and put them on a plane straight back.
It would be alot more economical and will teach them to stop trying to sneak in our back door.
I'm not lacking compassion, but I too was disgusted that the men on 1 ship were happy to have the children drown by taking their life
preservers.
We do have our own homeless issues in australia, we have race issues, we have families
in cars,we have lack of assimilation. When is enough enough? Will we just keep letting people in until there is standing room only?
There has been enough coverage of the "terrible" circumstances in which refugees have to live, why still come, then complain about what you are going through? Then finally get into the country and create they're own communities and laws.
Hello!! We don't practice sharia law in Australia.
I feel sorry for the kids. Kids are kids regardless.

I don't think students have any right to be called 'clients' at all. It means nothing more than the right to buy a degree, buy grades, and the mindset that has sold education to China and India has all but ruined these institutions by lowering standards so that people who can't even speak the language get degrees that ought to have gone to people who actually live and work here.
Some academics have even said that they might as well offer a receipt for grades given. Or, would you like fries with that grade, Mr Chang?
I agree 100 percent. It's neo-con ideology gone mad. Universities should be fully funded like they were in Whitlam's day when students used to earn their degrees by hard work, not buying them. Then these Chinese and Indians came in and debased our whole education scene with their lying and cheating. Most of them are after permanent residence anyway, not an education.

No Becky, don't blame the stupid hapless students coming here and buying their degrees, blame the greedy scum sucking corporate parasites that have manipulated education into being a marketable comodity instead of an inalienable human right.

The Aussie navy should just torpedo the garbage scows bearing these animals while they are still at sea. That would spare them the misery they endure at Christmas.
