Indonesia must tackle rising discrimination and violence, says UN human rights chief
"Indonesia has a rich culture and history of diversity and tolerance. At the same time, it risks losing this if firm action is not taken to address increasing levels of violence and hatred towards religious minorities and narrow and extremist interpretations of Islam," said the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay.

Tolerance in Indonesia is an appearance with a shallow depth. Society tends to be inward looking especially in Java. Uniformity is appreciated which shows in the desire to convert shia's into sunni's. The alternative which is to show tolerance to other's opinion is felt to be more cumbersome and therefore is rejected. Never mind that SBY was rubbing shoulders with Ahmedinajad the President of the most important Shia nation just two weeks ago.
