Let's get real people. Batam supplying electricity to Singapore??? You got to be JOKING.
Whenever it rains heavily in Batam, electricity in Batam just get cut-off and poor Batamians are without electricity for hours on end - sometimes lasting about 5 to 6 hours or sometimes even longer. Why not just ask the common people in Batam. DON'T ever ask any of the Batam bureaucrats, demi-gods or high echelons. They will paint for you somekind of hog-wash beautiful story as to how Batam can supply electricity or that Batam can be a tourist portal by 2015. These Batam bureaucrats are just deluding themselves and they try to pull wool over other people's eyes. Look at the condition of ALL the roads in Batam. They have a zillion pot-holes which have never been attended to let alone being repaired for aeons. The Batam bureaucrats are just reaping the benefits whilst the common people suffer.
Hence people - let's get REALLY REALLY real and ask ourselves this VERY simple question:'If the bureaucrats in Batam cannot solve their own problems in their own house to say, how on God's green earth can Batam take care of another country's problem let alone supply electricity to SINGAPORE'???

The other REAL QUESTION to ask is, will Singapore buy it?

Jim, I agree with you 100%, I've been working and staying here in Batam for the past 10+ years and can see improvement only that at a rather slow speed, but for sure no zillion pot holes, 10s maybe and those small ones.....

One step forward three steps backward isn't exactly improvement...we shall see when a new President takes over. Hope for the best, prepare for the worse.
