As a former staff member of Bayview Correctional facility, I am informing you that some of the information in your piece is inaccurate. When Bayview became a prison (male work-release) in 1974, it was converted not from an SRO but from an adolescent remand facility operated by the state Narcotic Addiction Control Commission. NACC had operated this facility since 1966, when it acquired the building from the YMCA. From the building's construction in the 1930s until that time, it had been a residence for merchant seaman. The original flooring in the lobby was terazza marble imported from Italy and then covered up by the State with acoustic tile. Its beautiful chapel, with lovely stained glass windows with nautical themes, wes used by the wives and families of the seamen to pray for the safe return of their men from the sea. This is not exactly covered by the term "SRO", is it?
