Best bet for pics is to go to social media sites:
Facebook, join group "Lavallette Boardwalk"
Twitter, search #Lavallette
YouTube: search Lavallette Sandy

This video shows several areas of lava including Bay Cafe. It's very upsetting.

From what I've learned the northern streets around President are ok. The closer you are to Ortley the greater likelihood of damage. WPI was almost all under water for a day+.

no one is allowed to enter the island except emergency personnel. There is a bad smell of gas and fears of fires.

It looks like a great majority of the houses remained on their foundations but fronts torn off many boardwalk homes. The little that is left of the boardwalk does not seem to be salvagable. I would expect most homes will have suffered at least 1st floor damage. Look at the pic on social media. I expect more pics to arrive in next few days/weeks as they open up the island to media and others.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm hoping my grandfathers old house is okay. 109 Virginia Ave. He sold it back in the '70's. It was a beautiful home.

24 year home owner on Newark ave here. Have been sent 2 or 3 photos of Elizabeth ave, and top of Newark ave-- they are extremely hard to view. Email @ marissa.amelio@gmail.com if you wish to see. Incredibly sad what has happened.

Was wondering if anyone can tell me information on homes on Dickman drive, checking to see if Gus Bruns is ok
Hi Kathy - I was there to see Gus this weekend and evacuated him on Sunday. He went to my Aunt Mary's (Anne's sister) and is still there. They have no electricity, but are fine.

If you could send those to me that would be great -- we've had a house on Newark for about 15 years and we're anxious to know what's going on. ccappararo@gmail.com

Patti, Did you happen to notice any damage on the first 1/2 dozen houses on Dickman Dr. coming off the bridge? My parents live there and I grew up there no word yet as to damages.

I was there Sunday morning before the storm hit, so I don't have an idea of the damage. Here is a website that has pictures from above that has part of West Point Island shown - including the first few houses on Dickman. http://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/storms/sandy/

Spoke to my cousin last eve who lives on Kerr on beach side . Apparently the dunes saved Kerr from damage unlike south Lavalette which was badly damaged. Mostly just sand from dunes on the street he thinks although he hasn't been able to see it due to restrictions.
