Weather service director retires after critical investigation of agency

That was the day after a departmental investigation said that for several years, the NWS has taken money Congress had provided for certain functions and reallocated the money to 122 weather offices around the country.

It sounds like the agency made up its budget as it went, correcting as best it could to preserve its mission despite Congressional underfunding. Since there is not yet any suggestion of embezzling nor criminal activity, this may be what happens when an agency with a vital Mission does not secure adequate funding to accomplish that Mission.

Great example of what can happen when funding cuts to offset tax cuts can do!
