And just where the hell has this skimmer been for almost 3 months? Why in the world has it taken so long for someone to figure out that this could have been put to good use?

They just built it.

Built in South Korea as a supertanker for transporting oil and iron ore, the six-month-old vessel was refitted in the wake of the BP oil spill with 12, 16-foot-long intake vents on the sides of its bow designed to skim oil off surface waters.

It's too bad that BP put profit and greed over safety. Notice how the deaths of the rig workers has been hushed up? Sad, sad, sad.

i just came back from florida and its a big mess down there, go to wear channel 3 its a pensacola news channel, on one interview the captain of one ship said he was going to pocket any money he got from bp all his workers were angry cause they should get a share but he smiled and said no he was a bussiness man and he would keep the money, also the people that are suppossed to be cleaning the beaches were just sitting around doing nothing so when the newscaster wanted to interview them they were told to not bother them while they were working its ridiculous whats happening down there.

Well, we'll see. god is the only one who knows what is going to happen with all this. And it is HIS will we have to do. not B.P.'s.
Just keep praying! God Bless America.

i am glad that they have finally made some "REAL" progress with this oil spill.... Though this should have been done along time ago, but I say better late then never. Hopefully the people of the Gulf can make some progress with get back close to normal as possible. God Bless America!

I may have this wrong, but I understand that when the Russians have a blowout like that happen to them, they simply take a pony nuke warhead with an ultra-short half-life radioactive explosive, stick it on a sub missile and quietly blow the sod up. The sand is instantly turned into a massive glass cap and voila! No more oil leak! Because this is up where nobody's around in the arctic circle, they can get away with it. The instant that platform sank and it was clear they weren't going to find those 11 men, that's exactly what should have been done to that sucker. Pull everybody out of the area and blow it up at night. Better to ask forgiveness than permission - in this case, the other nations would have understood exactly WHY it had been done without waiting for permission. If SOMEBODY in the W. H. had had the guts of Harry Truman, that is what would have happened and we wouldn't have had the disaster we've been left with for the next century. Any half-life radiation would have been dissipated and no environmental disaster of the magnitude it has become. Yes, we'd have killed some of the sea life in the area by the blast pressure, but we wouldn't have the loss we've sustained - and are going to continue to sustain for years.
