What I don't understand is why did those people decide to stay? I watched on the news that there were like some 40,000 people who didn't wanna evacuate. Why? After what happened with Katrina, I would never take those chances. I realize it's hard walking away from everything you worked your whole life to obtain, but those are just things, and house is worth one human life.

If you read the complete story, they could have left out of Haiti, but would have had top abandon all the orphaned children. I can understand - I would have stayed as well.

"The Wilsons did what every American would do when disaster strikes them in a foreign country: They called the U.S. embassy.

The embassy was glad to help, but only if the Wilsons evacuated, Kathy Brooks said.

That wasn't an option for those big-hearted people, who were the only adults among children as young as 3.

"Americans don't walk away from 40 kids. We don't do that," she said."

You know what I didn't read the whole story- I'm sorry I didn't even read the 1st paragraph. I had just assumed it was about the people in Galvastion. You're right-the right thing to do in that case was to stay.
