KAWKABA, LEBANON, Saturday 23 June 2012 – A total of 360 personals commanded by Lt Col Hassim Mat from MALCON 7 contingent consisting of Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Armed Forces, officers, men and women have been awarded with United Nations Medal after one year tour of duty in UNIFIL from 21 July 2011.

The ceremony was held at MALCON Camp Parade Square on the 23rd June 2012. The Commander for the parade was Major Rahmat Shah Razif bin Haji Roslan and consists of 3 detachments.

The first detachment was Quick Reaction Force Platoon led by Maj Mohd Fairoz Mat Jusof. Second Detachment was Force Protection Platoon led by Maj Nazri Mat Rosli and the third detachment was Mobile Reserve Platoon led by Major Muhd Suwardi bin Haji Abd Latiff.

The Guest of Honour was Brigedier General Julio Herrero Isla, UNIFIL Sector East Commander. The ceremony started with the parade marching in, continued with the flag rising ceremony of UN, Lebanon, Malaysia and Brunei. Subsequently, the medals was awarded to the contingent led by SecEast Commander, His Excelency Malaysian Ambassador, Qaem Makam Hasbaiya and Deputy Commander of South Litani.

The contingent demonstrated Silent Drill, Unarmed Combat and War Dance before proceed to the break. During the break, the contingent performed Malaysian cultural and traditional dance.

360 ORANG MALCOY 7 TERIMA ANUGERAH PBB SETELAH SETAHUN BERKHIDMAT BERSAMA UNIFIL

KAWKABA, LEBANON, Saturday 23 June 2012 – Seramai 360 orang Anggota Tentera Malaysia (ATM) dan Anggota Tentera Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) dibawah kepimpinan Lt Kol Hassim Mat telah dianugerahkan Pingat PBB setelah berkhidmat dengan cemerlang di bawah UNIFIL selama setahun berterusan bermula 21 Julai 2011. Upacara pemakaian pingat dilangsungkan oleh Brigedier Jeneral Julio Herrero Isla , Komander Sektor Timur dan diteruskan oleh Duta Malaysia Lubnan, Qaem Makam Hasbaiya dan Timbalan Komander Selatan Litani.

Upacara perbarisan dilangsungkan di Padang Kawad Kem MALCON pada 23 Jun 2012 jam 1000 pagi waktu Lubnan. Perbarisan ini diketuai oleh Mejar Rahmat Shah Razif Hj Roslan dan terdiri daripada 3 buah detasmen. Detasmen pertama terdiri daripada Platun Quick Reaction Force dan di ketuai oleh Mejar Mohd Fairuz bin Mat Jusof. Manakala, detasmen kedua yang diketuai oleh Mejar Nazri Mat Rosli terdiri daripada Platun Pertahanan dan Platun BMR sebagai detasmen ketiga dibawah kelolaan Mejar Muhd Suwardi bin Haji Abd Latiff.

Upacara diteruskan lagi dengan pertunjukan Kawad Senyap daripada Detasmen Kedua, persembahan Tempur Tanpa Senjata oleh Detasmen Pertama dan Persembahan Tarian Perang daripada Detasmen Ketiga sebelum begerak ke majlis makan.

The Grup Gerak Khas (Special Service Group) is a special forces regiment of the Malaysian Army which conducts special operations missions for the Malaysian government, such as direct action, unconventional warfare, sabotage, counter-terrorism, and intelligence gathering. It is the administrative and operational group to which the three regiments of the Rejimen Gerak Khas and its supporting units are subordinated.

Deployments/Missions
Communist Terrorist Insurgency 1966–1990

During the communist insurgency, Regiment Gerak Khas members had fought bravely in the Malaysian Jungle. A number of Communist Terrorists were killed and lots of weapons/equipment were seized.

Spratly Islands

While deployment of Rejimen Gerak Khas units are secretive, it has been understood that Army and Navy Special Forces have been deployed to back Malaysia's claim to several islets in the Spratly Islands.

Grup Gerak Khas members were deployed to Bosnia, the one and only commando unit from South East Asia to have served in Bosnia.

Genting Sempah Incident

In July 2007, 22nd Gerak Khas co-operated with elite 10 Paratrooper Brigade, PASKAU and Pasukan Gerakan Khas and supported by the US Navy, police General Operations Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Forestry Department rangers, Civil Defense Department (JPA3) and villagers were deployed to search and rescue six missing air force crew who were involved in the Sikorsky S61 Nuri helicopter crash near Genting Sempah, in Genting Highlands. However, the SAR team found the wreckage of the helicopter, with its rotor blades detached at 5 km northwest of location at 17 July 1324 hrs. All six RMAF crew on board were killed and their bodies were found in the cabin.[6]

Grup Gerak Khas units were deployed with 10 Paratrooper Brigade, PASKAL and PASKAU involved MALCON – UNIFIL to serve in Lebanon.[7][not in citation given]

MALCON – ISAF

The special forces included Grup Gerak Khas, PASKAU, 10 Paratrooper Brigade and PASKAL was deployed with other Malaysian contingent to involved the administrative workload at the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. The team was deployed to assist the New Zealand Armed Forces in the peacekeeping missions and humanitarian aid at the Bamiyan District, Afghanistan.[8]
