Hi I'm about to start a new job in the Houston area later in the year and I'm looking for a nice city or suburb. A relative told me they had heard that the areas west & north of the city are where most of the upscale people moved & where crime rates are the lowest.

Can anybody offer any recommendations?

Thank you.

Your relative is generally correct. Follow this simple rule:
Stay west of 610,
North of Westheimer,
West of 290,

There are other good neighborhood further out.

What about north of the city by the airport? Up near Lake Houston/Spring? Is that area livable.

just like a mecksican out look. negative.where you live is how you make it.you could be a white person and live in a black neighborhood.just get along with your neighbor. dont fly rebel flags or dumb things like that. its obvious not to live in acres homes or any of the wards thats left.or bad apts.i was born and lived in houston all my life.live where you want to.com e and drive around with a map book and check it out you will see things that the internet wont show you.dont pay attention to juan we are going to deport him soon.

There's no safest part. Just remember - you don't move here for safety OR nice - you move here to get a job, to get paid more, etc.

Bellaire, Montrose, River Oaks, Kirby Drive Area, West University Place, Rice area, etc.

80% of the city is a dump, looks just like LA, high crime, etc.

Look at Fort Bend County where the taxes are lower and the services better....especially the police response and patrol.

Sugarland is a nice area also.

Crime is still high in the Bellaire, etc areas - if not worse. I agree with the 80% - high crime, low cost of living for a huge city though. Agreed with other counties outside of Houston.

Houston is badass,
what y'all talking about!

Ok, I would say
The Woodlands, Tomball, Spring,
Humble, Bellaire, some parts of The Galleria,
Sugarland, Katy

Obviously not the majority of
Southwest :)

like it or not) bahahaha

The area near Lake Houston is nice. But no matter where you live in Houston just watch your back. Traveling and working during the day is as safe as it gets. Being out at night is not a good thing in Houston unless you are with a lot of people.
