Yes, homes are expensive. That's why some people don't buy homes and others buy in an area away from where they'd prefer to buy in order to afford a home.

I wish someone in Beverly Hills would lower their price to a more reasonable level so that I could afford to move there.

Thats a good one Bill... true.
I bought in Pomona because it was cheap. And certain parts are not as bad as others. This is a VERY large city with different areas. I love my street and neighbors, it is very quiet and peaceful. The houses are selling for $200-300K and I border Claremont/Montclair. Upland is 5 mins away, and most homes for sale are 3/4 bedrooms. This lady needs to wake up to reality.

And of course, Bill. One would expect the Beverly Hills housing authority to hand you at least $75,000 starter monies. It's just wrong that the buyer would be expected to have money and a job!
Oh and throw in three nice cars for my triplets!
Anything less is just unacceptable.

I to would loved to live in Upland, I rented there for many years.. but when it came time to buy, realty struck in, and we bought in south Montclair.. my kids still go to school in Upland ( because montclair schools are the pits ), and we are good with that.. I live in a great neighborhood.. nice, clean quiet, and more house than I would have got in upland, yes.. if the opportunity came,I probably would still buy there, as a matter of fact, my dream home in Upland is currently for sale.. dirt cheap, but with the market right now.. I'm content where I am.. Keep looking ladies, there are nice areas aside from Upland, and if your kids have been in the district long enough and they are good students, you can get a district transfer and keep them in the same school.. I've been in Montclair over 5 years, and never had a problem with my kids at upland schools.... Open up your options and you will have results...

The information contained in this article stating that the Upland Housing Authority gave Ms. Miller $75,000.00 is incorrect. Upland Housing Authority does not have a loan program for homeownership, no have we ever heard of Ms. Miller

Just so you know, some people post from work (like myself) and others from home or other places. The city/location under your name is where you posted from. Doesnt necessarily mean where you live.

if your employed by City of Upland, why would you disclose this information? And as far as I knew, being in the mtg industry, City of Upland does offer a down payment assistance program, but the borrower needs to go through a City of Uplands approved lender for these programs. they are a no payback assistnace loan as long and you own the property, must be owner occupied, but if you refi or sell, the city must be paid back.... this is how it was unless it has very recently been discontinued.. maybe when Ms. Miller had this aricle posted??

Whats wrong with the City's housing authority - giving this women $75K when they knew she could not qualify for any home in Upland when housing values are more than double than the amount she qualified for?????

She has to lower her standards and purchase a home in Pomona - they also give you free money for a down payment.

Why is this women's plight considered a nightmare? We all have to make choices and sacrafices. DUH!

nightmare in her own eyes.. she's probably afraid of living around " Minorities" not realizing, that Upland is highly populated with a wide varity of races.. she can do montclair.. it borders upland too.. and north ontario.. there are some really nice areas, that she can probably afford, but she even said herself, that there were houses, but not what she was looking for..maybe she needs to take a blind eye to this and take what she can.. pride of ownership!

Oh, I think it's abundantly clear to all of us that the author is not correct - particularly with the poor judgement in stories and lack of awareness that the region of full of hardworking folks struggling to keep their homes. Those homeowners are insulted to hear someone benefitting from public funds, courtesy of taxes paid by existing homeowners, complaining that those same homeowners must also lower the prices of our homes to accomodate these women and their misguided and insensitive complaints and sense of entitlement.
Okay, where's the Tylenol?...

at it's best! What evidence do you have to support your post regarding this lady not wanting to live around "minorities" other than the little movies playing in your head? How can you be so careless?

I really have to say that I don't see what the point of this article was. To try to raise sympathy for these two ladies? One of whom only wants to live in Upland, poor baby, and the other who hasn't paid her house payment in months, but expects to still live there? Gimme a break.
