Hurt the economy? Maybe in the short term.
But it won't have any long lasting effects.
Perhaps the government should feel some of the pain that those of us in the private sector have been feeling for the last ten years.
The people sent the Republicans into office in 2010 to cut spending (among other things). That is what they are trying to do.
The Dems want to spend as usual. If it takes a government shutdown to show them that they are dreaming, then so be it.

It's too bad that our (ugh) presumptive president will be able to continue to collect his ill-begotten paycheck. The country is ready to fire his butt, and there should be some way short of impeachment to do such. Ugh again. He should be sent back to Kenya, where he was born!!!

Nonsense. There is no way to harm an economy Obama and the Communists have already irreversibly harmed. It's just a matter of time until everyone suffers horribly.

Too bad Pres Obama didn't do a better job of encouraging Nancy Pelosi to do hers last year, when the Democratically-controlled House of Representatives decided to attached a document (to an emergency war supplemental bill) that deemed as passed a non-existent $1.12 trillion 2011 budget in early July 2010.

Federal, Medicaid/Medicare, Social Security, Oh My
Government handouts, including unemployment insurance, Medicare and Social Security, make up 35% of the total amount of salaries and wages of the U.S. population. According to TrimTabs Investment Research, such benefits accounted for 10% of wages and salaries in 1960 and 21% in 2000.
