Neighbors come together to pay for trees to beautify Chambersburg park

Nov 13, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Chambersburg Public Opinion

For years, when the residents of Justine Drive looked out their windows they would see an empty park, a busy Norland Drive, and businesses in various stages of construction.

Is it just me or does it seem very convenient that land was purchased by the borough for use as a park near the residence of a retired borough employee, who is also the projects "coordinator." I mean I understand there is a neighborhood on sunbrook, woovale and phoenix drives that could use the park but that area of the borough seems to me to be known more for its stores, restaurants, banks and health campus.

well Oliver give me reason to think otherwise, this seems very similar to when borough employees living near Norland avenue found it necessary to have a traffic study and then a speed hump installed on that road. Just another case of borough employees taking care of their own.

I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make.

It is not unusual for retired city employees to continue to take an interest in the goings on, especially in their own neighborhoods. The money was from residents and a business, the only borough involvement seems to be an official OK and maybe (?) a contract with Garden Corner. This looks like nothing more than involved citizens doing that extra bit to get something nice done.

Try being a squeaky wheel. Maybe you'll get some grease.

My point has nothing to do with the recent purchase of the trees by the residents for the park. It has to do with the original purchase of the land by the borough. When this land was purchased the area surrounding, besides the homes on Justine drive, consisted of empty plots and businesses. Not an ideal location for a park, except for the fact that a retired borough employ lived there.

So you view this whole purchase deal as a "gift" to a retired employee?

(US $ 10 450)/ 19 = 550 U.S. dollars

It is doubtful they put in saplings and a professional arborist's services are not cheap.

Out of pocket contributions to improve public land and the honor of putting more than the price of a tree into tax coffers? The real scam is the $627 (6%) in sales tax paid for those 19 trees.
