Factoid number 10 is incorrect- Ben Bernanke is the other puppet who testifies before Congress.

My eldest daughter watched Sesame Street from its beginnings in 1969. She was reading at the age of 4, thanks to Sesame Street and The Electric Company, which was the next step up for the kids. They have never shied away from difficult issues and presented them in a way children could understand and grasp. I almost feel like a pioneer myself because I remember watching it with my child from the beginning. No television program has matched it for its first class work with kids and education. Bravo! Happy Birthday!!

Usually I leave snarky comments on the "news" presented on dispatch.com . But none of that today. I am 31 years old, and Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers are enduring parts of my childhood. I remember running around the house after Sesame Street was over reciting numbers, letters, and words I learned from the characters. What a wonderful institution, and a credit to public television! Here's to another 40 years on PBS.

The article would have been much better if had given some credit to Jim Henson for his creative genius back of the muppets.

Always hated that show. This is where America started going wrong.

I watched Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers as a child and am eternally grateful that. These shows taught repect and cooperation. They taught tolerance and patience.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
