It pains Victoria Neil to serve her two young children milk at only one meal a day now, substituting water for the other two.

Well this is what happens when you have to compete for food with the Cuban immigrants for basic food products. I can only hope that this will teach you not to let the Cuban immigrants run your local and state governments in the future.

What do the local politicians have to do with food prices? I guess we have socialized food? Wow, Publix is a way nicer socialized food company than the Haitian one! I guess the Cubans do a good job!

I can't wait until the greedy Republicans and their idiot figure-head are driven from office in November. Never in all my 72 years have I ever seen the country in such deplorable shape.

That's funny who was president at the time? Oh well at least the other guy got it straightened out before the war and than he knew when to pull out and leave what's his name on power. Occasionally bombing his ass when he gets out of line. you know the good ol' American way.

PS Jim Baker was right,

Wow, were you alive in the 80s? Crime way beyond the supposed "skyrocketing" crime rate today, unemployment 10% compared to today's supposedly high 5%, inflation higher than today (as evidenced by rate being highest in "18 years", not ever). Or the gas shocks in the 70s. And there was way more in 72 years, so get real.

For 72 years you've been following the "party" line and voting, sniveling and whining for more and more government.
Well, you have more government and this is what happens after an extended period of more and more gluttonous government.
But do you and people like you fight back and at the very least push the botton for a Ron Paul who would really charge direction back to limited government, more freedom and more prosperity? No, you whine and snivel for even more government.
You are a traitor to all real Americans who only want freedom. People like you who are responsible for this giant government are the very reason we will all have to work many more years than we had anticipated. Just to feed this giant government.
You dirt bag.

Presidents do not write laws or the nation’s checks. They are easy to blame, but you have 535 additional applicants who deserve equally praise and blame.

Republican Congress 2005
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Democratic Congress 2008
1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soars to over $4.00 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5%(a 10% increase);
4) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
5) Highest food inflation in 18 years

Cut back on luxury food staples and get back to basic healthy food. This will affect processed food sales and result in lower demand.

End the farm subsidies that considered $750k as the cutoff point for a poor farmer. Your milk, corn, wheat, sugar and soy costs are high because we subsidize farmers to the tune of $300 billion. Cut the subsidies and prices drop.

Keep blaming Bush if you have no viable solutions or leadership by Pelosi and Reid.

Sorry you feel this way, but I do suspect you bought into the doom and gloom message of the MSM.

CNN asking people how the recession is treating their families. BTW, 4th quarter 2007 and 1st quarter 2008 recorded growth, so we are not in a recession.

I remember the 70's, Carter, long lines, inflation, no gas at the pump. I hope we are not returning to this so called leadership.

As bad as it seems, we have the lowest unemployment rate and record during the past 7 years despite an attack, a war, and China and India consuming more resources than are available.

The market will work its magic on weeding out the idiots who speculated, flipped, or bought off more than they could chew. The 99% who did not, will survive just fine and retain their homes.

Employment always fluctuates according to demand for certain skills. If you are out of work, update your skills, change industries, you are not the first or last to be unemployed in over 200 years of American history.

We need leadership which Reid, Pelosi and Bush are not providing this country.

We don't need promises, or rhetoric of change and feel good policies.

"It pains Victoria Neil to serve her two young children milk at only one meal a day now, substituting water for the other two."

Too bad she still believes the lies children need milk, let alone three times a day. Serve it with cereal sure, but not as a beverage. Buy grape juice, apple juice, any 100% juice and cut it 50% with ice or cold water. Do the kids a favor not growing up with a taste for thick and sweet being the comfort drink.

Be the best thing for all of us if corn syrup went into the gas tank and healthy sugar (without the vitamins processed out of it) went into our food and soft drinks, tastes better and provides energy so we don't get fat.

Cut back on the pre-prepared items and the non-necessities like soda, beer, snacks, etc. Eliminating the daily Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee will more than make up for the food increases.

I cannot fathom how it costs this 'mom'$150 a week to feed her family of 3. That's $600 a month! Has she never shopped a sale in her life? Does she know where Penn Dutch is located?
I go to Penn Dutch about once every 6 weeks and spend about 60 bux to stock the freezer, including some steak. My average weekly trip to the grocery store for 'fresh' stuff like veggies/fruit is at the most,$40.
I know someone in CT (even more expensive than here) that feeds a family of 6 for less than $500 a month. Sounds like Ms. Neil needs to learn how to shop and probably cook. I'm guessing most of her meals consist of every processed piece of crap that's in the freezer case.
