As to the cliche of the politician who has "convictions" and will "speak his mind," etc... I've always been much more concerned about the actual substance of a politician's statements and actions. Honesty is certainly a virtue, but in choosing a political representative, at any level, I look first at the policies that candidate has or will advance. I'm not particularly concerned about why the politician has taken these positions.
