bargains for buyers
The auction of the remaining 20 or so office condo units in the north and south towers of The Plaza in downtown Orlando went more slowly than many expected Thursday, one more sign of the stagnant real estate ...

50 Cents on the dollar?....Sounds like a deal....but what about the people of Orlando who have gotten Zero on their investment? An investment made by someone who didn't even ask the people what he should do with their money? How do they re-coup Impact Fees, Property Tax incentives, upfront "gift" money even if the structure never went up, Demolition fees close to 1/2 Million $$. All this and more is money that never went into the City coffers, and had to be taken from somewhere else so as to balance the City budget for those respective years. City programs that never got needed money because of YOUR money being passed around to Developers, so they could enrich themselves at your expense. The story you will Never hear from this alleged paper, will never be told. Where is the interview with the City "Mayor" who is always available to take the Credit, but not the Blame?

Thank God the Plaza was built. Otherwise we would still be looking at the old Jaymont slum in the middle of downtown. |

There have been no incentives actually paid on this building. There was a loan given on public parking that had to be paid back as the condos were bought. It was paid back in a lump sum prior to it being sold to another developer. So, not one penny of incentives have been paid to Kuhn. Just like there were no incentives actually paid to Pearlman. These contracts require performance. No theater, no money. Don't believe everything you read in the Sentinel.

And I have a bridge in Brooklyn you can buy at half price. Where do these people get these inflated prices for a backwater town like Orlando> Boggles the imagination.

Normal growin' pains.. Downtown Orlando is getting better every day.

How do you define better? For me, better = bulldoze Parramore. Make downtown Orlando a safe place: raze the Parramore-Westmoreland section and transplant the residents to 33rd St. Another idea would be to construct a wall topped with electrified barb wire around Parramore and then hang a sign outside to announce the new Orlando Zoo. |

jft cameron acually got 3.5 million up front please only post the truth. city employees are not suposed to be posting dureing working hours.
|
|
Not True.....$3.5 Million was given upfront with NO conditions tied to the Money. Impact Fees were waived, Tax incentives were granted, which simply means little or NO Taxes paid on the property, Demolition and Hazardous waste Fees were waived. All this and more means that money that normally would have gone into City coffers was not forthcoming. Now who do you think has to pay more or sacrfice more so as to balance the budget for these moneys not coming in...? You! |

Wheeeeweee! Condo fo 50 cent? I'm gonna git evry one I know & we gonna go & git sum dem m-f'as! |

The city and county will most likely pass the expenses or losses onto the tax payer.
When they razed the area, it would have been nice if they made it into a green space such as a park. Anything natural and green downtown would improve upon the area more than another building. Greed got in the way of long term thinking. That said, What is there now is a huge improvement to what it replaced. |

I think those who got anything there for less that $160/sq ft are going to be very happy they did in 5-7 years!
