Such stupid sentiments by the above - and such hateful words.

As with all religions, and all economies, this must mix. I am sure this will work out.

After all faith is dictated by a date.

My goodness Catholics could take every day off. They have so many holidays.

Remember we go to work. Work does not revolve around OUR lives.

There shouldn't be any problem getting time off. It assures that your focus is in the right direction.

And the article forgot to mention sports activities. But let's remember these groups can't make the schedule for every religious kid on the team. Let your kid KNOW that religion is more important than sports, school or work.

It's the parents' responsibility.

Thought that if you worked in the school system you can't take the day before a holiday off? What gives?

Catholics have 8 or 9 holidays a year. They go to mass, then they go to work. No big deal. Life is about making choices and the choices you make. You might as well get on with it. Wheel spinning isn't permitted on the sabbath or these holidays.

Bonnie Bernstein-Doobrow should be fired. Any city employee knows that you can only take sick days when sick, not for a personal holiday.

Please help a dumb Gentile -

Where does it say you can't work on these days?

Christians are allowed to work on Christmas, Good Friday, any day except Sunday.

A lot of people are forced to work Christmas Day or they lose their jobs. Why should it be different for everybody else?

These Jew's wouldnt have to make such a 'tough choice" if they didnt practice this silly nonsense, same thing goes for christians, muslims, kwaanzan's and any other's...get your arse and brain out of the stone age and into this century and drop out of participating in stone age rituals, Matter of fact, the world may be a nicer, more peaceful place if people did just that.
Agreed, the choice is clear. Religion is nothing more than BS and mind control. Free thinking need not apply....

Everyone has a right to practice their religion, and I don't believe they are fools for doing so: a little faith goes a long way. But I agree with the poster who stated religion comes above work, school, sports activities, etc. As long as you don't expect said places to accommodate you because of those religious beliefs. You have a choice, depending which is truly more important.

Who cares? Is this news?

It is a personal choice if someone wants to work or not. You have a contract with your employer and that is it. He pays you to work when you are scheduled. If he was ok with these days off when he hired you then you are good to go. Break it and lose your job as a possibility.

This is not rocket science and there are hundreds of religions out there. Most people just use a sick day or a vacation day. If you don't have it suck it up or lose the pay.

Same article every year. Just the names change.

I have no regret or find it a tough choice to celebrate Christmas,(the birth of Jesus Christ) not the secular commercial holiday, at home with family.

What kind of faith makes celebrating it a tough choice?

"For others, the question is more complicated. Bonnie Bernstein-Doobrow, who works for the Broward County School District, used up six sick days earlier this year and said she has few days off remaining....But when her two children, who attend David Posnack Hebrew Day School, will be off for five more days, she said she regrets she will not be able to join them."

Her children attend a VERY expensive private school...funny she works for the Broward County School District....seems the people who work for the district get paid much better those that actually teach! It also says alot about the school system of broward county when she doesn't send her kids to public school, where alot of Jewish children go and also practice their faith.

It's not so much about being "allowed" to work. On the High Holy Days, specifically Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, observant Jews would be in synagogue for services all day. Can't be in synagogue and at work at the same time. That's the dilemma the article is talking about.

of course it was the Romans who killed a jewish person named Jesus.

when you grow up and complete your high school education, maybe then you'll acually learn something. Obvious it's too much for you now.

A little history for you ... Jesus was NOT a Christian. He was jewish, and as a jew, his life meant nothing to the Romans.

Bonnie should have known better that to let her name in information be posted in this article. Not very bright.

Aeithism is the best.
can take advantage of all holidays.

don't have to go to a building marked with a religious symbol.

Don't have to depend on an employee of a heirarchal bureaucracy for absolution.
