Full story: El Paso Times

A proposal to remove the word "Christmas" from a Texas public-school sixth-grade lesson is just plain outrageous.

This is the epitome of political correctness couched as a pretext for "education." It is PC police running amok. Elitists and want to be elitists will surely approve of this measure but I would be willing to wager that most people wish that PCP would take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut. Enough is enough; let's get back to being a people's culture, not the elitist's.

Because of these cultural changes, it is precisely why I am moving away from the liberal, democratic party and becoming more and more conservative.

These cultural changes are not only changing but intruding into tradition and American values, the attack on God the attack on Christmas attack on Easter, whats next?
Why dont we just call the United States China/West or Muslim Nation or Country of Illegals, those stupid liberals are worst than communist at the rate we are heading into before long the stamp of the 666 is going to be mandatory to every single American just to appease a small minority might as well bring on armegedon and get it over with if that is what they are desperately striving for.

So is it really the liberal, democratic party that is doing it? Or are you just blaming them for it? Politics is a blame game to me. One side does something the other side sees as wrong: OOOOHH IT'S TIME TO ATTACK! They seize the opportunity at a moment's notice and say anything they can to get people to believe one side or the other. It's brainwashing if you will. I am also surprised that this taking out "Christmas" hasn't turned into a religious issue. Oops, I mentioned it, here it comes!

The 1st Amendment to the GREAT constitution should be observed in this matter. We as Americans (not christians, Jews, etc.) are guaranteed our freedoms by this great document. Believe, I have seen it, some teachers in the privacy of thier classrooms take the liberty of preaching to children, spout their own version of religion. It starts a harmless observance of a holiday, students rights are routinely voilated by adults.
The great American Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1802: Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none othe for his faith or his worship, that h legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law RESPECTING AND ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION.......thus building a wall of separation between Chruch & State. end......
This writer, who served two terms in Vietnam defending the Constitution believes that religion has no place in school, it belongs in our churches, homes, etc.

Yet another reason for charter schools instead of public schools. Want Christmas, go to a school that celebrates it. Want Ramadan off, go to a school that participates in that.

I think Thomas Jefferson would say that the government has no business running schools in the first place.

Oh, I know a family who celebrates Christmas in such a way as in their children only get three gifts as Jesus Christ received the night he was born...hence, Christmas. I was astonished to hear that the children only got three gifts because of their parents firm belief in Jesus Christ the savior.

It is a Contemporary World Cultures class. Heaven forbid (literally) that Texas students learn beyond their own culture.

The dishonest way that the editors on the El Paso Times left out the title of the class, WORLD Geography and History, is duly noted. How embarrassing for any reporters/workers at the paper who do not agree that Christianity is the only thing that should be taught, and that children do not have a right to learn of other cultures/beliefs.

And if we migrate to a Muslim country we should respect that too. Yet we don't do that so much do we?

Thank you for sharing that. And please try to remember "conduct unbecoming..." See it out, bear with it, all things change in time. You can respect the rank without necessarily respecting the man.

actually according to recent poll christians are not the majority extremly close but sorry your not the biggest. this country houses many beliefs. Although i disagree they should keep christmas. instead of taking away a tradition expand it. do a kwanza theme day or something. or say winter holiday assignment. i have a mixed religion family and i had to do a christmas assignement. So i brought it samples of food from member of family backround. what religion you are were all the same at the dinner time. i say teach are children about different thing than just christian only.

Have you ever even read the text?(Not what you hear misquoted in movies)

How many wise men now that we're on the subject?

Geez, proclaim your ignorance of scripture from the mountaintop.

As far as your earlier post, yes, those that have a problem with Christianity are profoundly and abundantly liberal. We can start with the ACLU that brings the lawsuits, and work from there. Sound good to you?
