Why don’t they use the money on the tunnel? Just re-open the union contracts so the tunnel construction can proceed. What is the future of downtown Miami anyway? Is it going to be a slum or will it be revitalized with development jobs and opportunities? Blocking development of the PortMiami tunnel is one stalled project. It’s in the same critical area as the proposed Resort/Casino at the Miami Herald site. Local politicians and no-growth interest groups want to preserve the ugly Miami Herald building to block development. Tell your elected representatives. Tear down the Herald Building! We need jobs!

Avid Herald readers saw comments about this before it happened. The accounting is very sloppy. How can you be off by $45M? Now, every Tom, Dick and Harry has their hand out wanting the surplus. For starters, get the ugly Herald Building torn down quick so new construction can start and legitimately fill up the money pipeline so the local economy and not just the graft taking politicians receive some economic benefit.

The position of commissioners is a position which hascost us more money than not as far as constant shady deals and other self serving actions.

Rep Jose Pepe Diaz and Dem Spencer Jones are two examples as why we do not need this political office and should abolish it.

" the graft taking politicians receive some economic benefit."

Well said and perhaps that is why they hid the funds for themselves to "wet their beaks".

The area around the Miami Herald is reminiscent of Communist East Berlin. The park to the South is even walled off because it is too dangerous to dare walking there. Why anyone would want to preserve this kind of blight is beyond me. Tear down this obsolete vestige of the cold war. Let the new modern development come in and clean up the place.
