PETA is just a few steps away from trying to ban chicken with this new campaign. The human body requires protein. It is a basic food group whose best source is meat, foul meat, fish etc. These cannot be replaced with tofu, legumes and vegetables over prolonged periods. A diet has to be balanced.
Do they want children to develop protein and iron deficiencies? Do the people who are encouraging young children to 'go vegan' realize that not everybody is fit to follow a vegan diet. That everyone needs to consult their doctor before embarking on a new diet?
PETA advocates against cruelty to animals. If turkey, chicken, beef, fish etc are produced in a humane way why should we not be able to eat them? Why is it a natural human inclination to ingest meat if we're not supposed to?
Simple, it's what some, some! animals are here for -- to sustain the human race. You can't compare a turkey to a dog, trying to gross people out of eating turkey.
What they need to be doing is speaking out against battery-farms and cruel treatment of turkeys, ensuring that food is produced safely and ethically. These people need to come to terms with the reality that human beings have always coexisted symbiotically with other animals. We used horses for transport, ox for ploughing, donkeys, cows for milk, dogs and cats as pets, chicken for eggs and food! etc etc. Don't elevate turkeys to the status of humans and tell us to stop eating them. That's not animalism, its fact. Sometimes PETA embarrasses itself.
