Comet ISON is teasing the solar system as it dances with the sun and it's giving astronomers mixed signals.

The absence of CO indicates that it is likely to have been around the block before & that this is therefore not its first trip round the sun.
The early activity during the time of discovery @ would then have been the re evaporation of deposits from fossil jets snowed out onto the surface during the closing activity from the last outswing.
In that case it would be relatively tough, & it would also guarantee some activity on the outswing as it would have heated up to deeper levels following its flash fry on the inswing.
There is also a possibility of the comet breaking up due to tidal action @ perihelion. If it does that then it will expose fresh comet ice in the new fractures. In the case of a breakup it will be as spectacular as it was portrayed in the buildup.
Good news is the fact that the outswing is visible in the N. Hemisphere. I will keep watching that space.
Have a nice day: Ag
