Santa Cruz cites Callahan's Bar for pole dancing stage

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Following a complaint of pole dancing at Callahan's Bar on St. Patrick's Day, the city sent a formal letter of violation to the Water Street pub this week, accusing it of offering entertainment and constructing a stage without proper permits.

Good point. You know, furloughs citywide constitute Fridays off while they only got decrease from 40 to 36 hours a week.
Over staffed, highly funded. But access to the public qualifies only 32 total hours (four full days) which is the threshold between part time and full time benefits.
Yet, instead of keeping their offices open full five day weeks, and ROTATING staff, they all suck off the system with the luxury in three day weekends.
With budget cuts, they get even more perks!
Of coarse in situations like these, we'd prefer they don't show up to the office at all..
Obviously you have no clue. If you think Juliana is only putting in 36 hours a week, you're dreaming. Yes, rotating staff would be nice, but that would reduce the savings of closing buildings...It's a bit more complicated than your simpleton, agenda-driven math...Isn't it time for another Tea Party?

I went to Calahans on my 21 birthday 18 years ago, when the music was loud and awsome [heavy blues] but I NEVER got laid [left handers of IRISH/continental DECENT are NCLeft behind "growing up" in west america. I grew up in SANTA CRUZ Co. and can say that the "vice" and any seediness in this region are simply/truely REFLECTIONS of civility, and that "exchange student policies" would "deal" with the tiny-minority-within-the-Major ity, that are the fundamental cause of "complaint..." or actual vice for that matter.
it would be nice if some sort of sound proof, healthy/happy VENUE with "everything!! in moderation..." could be 'designed' JUST 1 block away inbetween the court house and the police station ...don't hide it, invite it!, if it "isn't" good INVITE {them} somewherelse. A.N.N.Y.T. a social safety NET.

Indeed it's tea time, totoller. So maybe she doesn't work the full 36 hours. Maybe she gets around to almost 20 - being a rural, backwoods under populated town.

What are you, against the people?

I don't know how many hours she works but it sure isn't 20...My point was that it is absurd to think that a department head puts in 36 hours a week...The furlough has actually made some upper level staff put in more hours than they used to because they can't ask lower level staff to do so (except the PD and Fire who are raking in the overtime).

No I'm not against the people, I'm against idiots who want government services but don't want to pay for them and criticize hard working people because they assume they are lazy, evil socialists - purely because they work in government. Perhaps you ought to better spend your time questioning why/how the Tea Party got so off track from the original intent of our forefathers - who weren't opposed to government or taxes, but the form of such...They weren't into destroying government (as many Tea Party activists seem to be), but having more local control (i.e. the Parliament in England - a much different situation than we have now).

PS: What is a "totoller"? Does that have something to do with the Wizard of Oz?

Isnt there a T & A Bar in Santa Cruz County? What would the Harm be. I know several GAY women that dance at T & A Bars. Pink Poodle, Hipphugger, Brass Rail. We need a naughty clean place to go to here in Santa Cruz county.. If we can allow gangs and drug dealers, and homeless drug users roam our streets basicly un touched, Then why not a Nice T & A Bar..

This City needs a few good high class strip bars and maybe a Casino or two. That would really make this town a destination again. We have enough Taquria's already.

You can run naked on the downtown Santa Cruz Mall stoned out of your mind, but don't pole dance inside a bar with cloths on.

A bar with pole-dancing in Santa Cruz is not a cool idea, no matter how liberated you may feel. Scantily-clad women pole-dancing on stage is not a far cry from pole-dancing strippers, and attracts the same clientele. This degrades the neighborhood. Pretty simple equation, and not something to encourage in Santa Cruz, especially considering the constant challenge posed by all the trolls downtown. We already have enough trash to clean up in this city.
You want to watch women pole dance in bikinis? Do it in your own house, or go to San Jose.
You sound fat.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with the accountant on this one. There are many potential hazards in such a situation. The permit process exists for a reason, however much we may not like its preoccupation with minutiae.
I mean, think about it, what if you walked into Callahan's one day and saw Becky Johnson pole dancing?
See, you didn't expect that, did you? No. I imagine it felt like mistakenly throwing your gearshift into reverse while doing 70 on the open road. But the permit process anticipates these sorts of ugly eventualities, and prescribes ways to avoid them and to remedy them when they occur.
As if you can drive a stick.
