Dear Mary Jo,

I found out that my donations to Family Service Association of Redlands goes to pay the payroll of the management and staff. All along I thought those people there are volunteers. These hard times, I think those people should volunteer and donate their service just like we do. In my opinion FSA management must be overpaid because they can afford to drive SUV's.

Mary Jo Holmes,

I just want to let you know that the people working at Family Service Association brings home the food for their own use. I happen to be there when it was closing time on a Friday and actually saw FSA staff loading their cars with bread, food baskets and other goodies from the pantry. I thought those donated goods are for the clients. Can you say as to how why this is happening?

Funny thing that Family Service should be mentioned first. I used to donate used clothing to them, even turned in one of the employees who would get first pick at the donations, and then turn around and sell them!! However, a single friend of mine was in need of social services (food and help with utilities). I recommended her to Family Service, oops!! Family Service is just that, you HAVE to have children for them to help you. My poor friend who realized she could NOT afford to have kids, decided NOT to. It's a shame that in order to get help in this day and age, one HAS to have children. I'm not against helping the children, I help my own grandkids a lot, but for a single person to be denied assistance based on the number of children STINKS to me!!

I'm going to quit donating to "worthy causes" and save the money for my family and friends (the ones with NO kids). When they need it, I'll have it. Toss out the middle person, no overhead, no admin costs, and most important, more for the needy!
