Parents react, with anger, to a Martin Luther King Day lesson at an elementary school that did not go as planned. But it left some of them in tears.

The activity involved separating students by their skin color. That is not sitting well with some parents, who believe the lesson is inappropriate for their children.

"She said she had a bad day, so I asked her why. She told me in her words,'The Mexican kids had to run today and the white kids got to play,'" said Hernandez.

The incident happened on January 13 during a weeklong celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"That was mean." said a school student!

"He wanted people to be treated the same, that no matter what about the skin color, they could still be friends.

School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Hendricks says the school district is looking into the incident.

"We will continue the investigation and if we find that further actions are warranted, we will do that," said Hendricks. This of course is a typical cover up answer to delay and hide the truth.

Looks like Dr. Mike Hendricks, didn't learn a darn thing when he attended college, or school for that matter, it's time to remove Hnedricks from his position for his racist crimes against children!

This type of behavior is common in Glendora California.

In regards to the news article "King Day lesson sparks outcry," (Jan. 25), I want to thank the Charter Oak Unified School District for reminding me why I never sent my kids to any of their schools.

It would probably shock a few teachers, but a whole lot of us out here in realityville learned at an early age that racism was wrong.

And that lesson was learned without having to damage the delicate psyche of a bunch of second graders.

Of course you will hear fromthe Glendora California city council and or city manager, that we have no control over this school, or Charter Oaks School District, if you hear this then you know the city of Glendora's leader's ar not leaders at all.

Remove them all from office as well as the schools Superintendent Mike Hendricks.

Two schools are taking heat for their approaches to honoring Martin Luther King Day.

At the University of California-Irvine, student Ricardo Sparks, co-chairman of the university's Black Studio Union, lodged a formal complaint when the Pippin Commons cafeteria tossed together a last-minute meal and sign reading "MLK Holiday Special: Chicken and Waffles" without university oversight, according to the Los Angeles Times.

UC Irvine spokeswoman Cathy Lawhon acknowledged that the cafeteria's choice of menu on Jan. 17 was not in "good taste," and said all managers and chefs will undergo cultural sensitivity training.

Meanwhile, at Willow Elementary School, a lesson plan in segregation backfired on Jan. 13 when parents called in outrage that their second graders, minority students, ran laps without access to water while the white students were free to play. Originally the lesson called for the reverse to take place the following day, but this never happened in light of the day's previous complaints, the Whittier Daily News wrote. The imbalance also irked parents.

Willow Elementary School Principal Bryan Shaw sent an apology to the parents and children. In part, it read: "The lesson was intended to address the inequities of assigning privileges and obligations based upon the color of a person's skin.

"Regrettably, it sent a different message to the participants and their families."

One parent told the Whittier Daily News that she hopes there will be an ice cream party to smooth things over with the children.

Interesting that this was at Willow School.

Mark, that is the school right down the street from you.

The school that you hang out at while all the little kids walk by.

Bet you Mark even tried to join in

All I see from the letters to teh editor etc. that are being released with the approval of the affected school diostrict and school, are cover up letters.

Just admit you all, screwed up.
school and this teacher a spectacle. This serves no positive purpose. It just became an unnecessary circus. PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MESS ARE RUNNING AROUND HIDING BEHIND THE VERY CHILDREN THEY WERE TO PROTECT.

KIM ROSET, WHEN WILL YOU BECOME AN ADULT SO YOU ADMIT YOUR COVERING UP FOR CRIMINAL ACTIONS, THAT WERE CARRIED OUT BY SOMEONE WHO HASN'T A CLUE.

I am the parent of two students who attend Willow Elementary School and I am also it's PTA president. It is a privilege to be involved in such a dynamic school. I am blessed by the staff and teachers on a daily basis. We have incredible students, amazing parent participation and consider ourselves a family. I would also like to point out that Willow is a recognized California Distinguished School. The administration, along with teachers and students have made this possible.

I BET YOUR CHILDREN DIDN'T HAVE TO RUN. IF YOUR CLAIMING AS A PARENT THIS TYPE OF CRUELTY WAS JUSTIFED, THEN YOU NEED TO RETHINK YOUR PARENTING SKILLS, MEANING YOUR A POOR ROLL MODEL AS A PARENT!

SOCIAL SERVICES OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHOULD START AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS MATTER AT ONCE.

KIM MAYBE YOU SHOULD TURN IN YOUR PTA MEMBERSHIP PAPERS, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Lets bring this issue in to the light, do you know how many laws this teacher and school broke?

Lets start:

School District Laws

City of Glendora Laws

Child Welfare Laws

County of Los Angeles Laws

State of California Laws

Federal Laws

So Kim Roset, where do you want to start, do you know this Ms. Roset that Child Welfare officals could take your children away from you if you did this to them?

Do your home work next time, before you pop up and start spouting off.
